Re-Cycling - Bike Reuse and Riding Fair
โถSummary
COVID emergency restrictions have seen a general decrease in children's participation in sport and, concurrently, an increase in their struggles with eating disorders and other psychological troubles. Yet, 2020 also saw a boom in bike sales and a significant increase in bike lane coverage. Awareness of bikes as a green means of transport has also grown in recent times. However, through childhood, multiple purchase of bikes may be necessary as the child outgrows one bike after another. Since children's bikes are basic, often low-quality products, their repair and reuse could help families save money, especially at a time when they may be experiencing significant financial hardship. The overall objective of the โRe-Cyclingโ project is to re-establish a healthy life-style among kids, and, at the same time, to promote social inclusion and a circular economy in the biking sector. This goal will be achieved through the following activities: a transnational workshop on the circular economy in the biking sector; a training program aimed at families regarding Do-It-Yourself repairs and re-use of bike components; Re-Cycling Fairs to be held in 5 partner Countries. During the Re-cycling Fairs families will bring their old or broken bikes to be fixed, to exchange a small bike for a better fit, or to buy a second-hand one. Workshops on bike repair and restyling will be organized. Bike tours and entertainments will also take place to build community ties. The project also envisages a robust impact assessment. This ambitious initiative will be carried out by 7 partners from Italy, France, Austria, Germany and North Macedonia. The Lead will be the Region of Lombardy Directorate of Sport and Youth, supported by 4 community biking associations and two organizations specialized in green economy and mobility. A smart social media campaign and the final event in Brussels will bring kids, families and their fabulous bikes into the spotlight.
