Summary

In June 2022 the province of Gelderland, The Netherlands will be hosting the European Company Sport Games 2022. This event attracts on average some 5,000 participants from over 30 European countries, who perform in 23 sports disciplines. The Games’ most important stakeholders are the province of Gelderland, European Federation for Company Sports (EFCS), the municipalities of Arnhem, Apeldoorn, Ede, Nijmegen and the Achterhoek region. They declared support for the event as a means to addressing their goals about HEPA. The ECSG 2022 form a perfect platform for these activities. Stichting Social Sports Europe designed a spin-off project, with the following main goal: “Increasing sport participation, voluntary work, vitality and knowledge about vitality among employees, maximizing the impact of this knowledge by sharing it with the national company sports federations affiliated with the European Federation for Company Sports (EFCS) and using this opportunity to boost vitality within European companies”. This is translated into five main activities:1. a side event programme for company employees (including the FIT Gelderland and FIT Europe campaigns); 2. the research programme ‘Vital companies in a European context’; 3. a volunteer programme; 4. integrating key values: gender equality, sexual orientation and (social) inclusion into the main event; 5. a community of Practice (CoP) for sharing outcomes. The project has EU added value, as it is in accordance with EU policies in the field of sport, social inclusion and diversity. It is innovative for the way it addresses and dissects the subject of vitality and for its (digital) approach towards sharing best practices and disseminating project outcomes with a Community of Practice. The quality and feasibility of the project are high, as it is carried out by a well-established organisation team, working according to a sound work plan and backed up by a strong team of partners and stakeholders and a vast professional network.
