Summary

Empowering women through Ultimate Frisbee The German Frisbeesport Association (Deutscher Frisbeesport-Verband, DFV e.V.), together with the Irish Flying Disc Association, is applying for a small-scale partnership (ERASMUS-SPORT-2021-SSCP) on the topic of recruiting and retaining women for the team sport Ultimate Frisbee. The partner organizations are thus pursuing the sport-specific goal of “Encouraging the participation in sport and PA”. At the same time, the horizontal goal of diversity is addressed. Background: The proportion of women in the sport Ultimate is around 25 percent across Europe as well as in Germany and a good 30 percent in Ireland. The project begins with the elaboration of framework conditions for suitable training offers for women. This will be done through a process of desk research and qualitative interviews with coaches in the field and potential candidates. From the knowledge gained, best practice easy-to-apply repository content will be developed that will lead to the implementation of a series of events in selected sports clubs. Coaches are being prepared for this and are expected to be deployed in about seven clubs (maybe four in Germany and three in Ireland). When selecting the sports clubs in Germany and Ireland, it is considered to address different target groups for women. The project continuously evaluates the successes in recruiting women as permanent members of the team and creates the repository content for use in the participating project nations. The content will be available online for free on a project dedicated homepage. The project period is therefore set at 18 months. The anticipated impact is the application of the content in other countries to empower women through Ultimate Frisbee throughout Europe.
