e-LGBT - e-sports for the inclusion of LGBT
▶Summary
Sport is a powerful tool for social development. Social development is about improving the well-being of every individual in society so they can reach their full potential. Success of a community is linked to the well-being of each citizen. Sport can be used to increase the social capital and social integration of LGBTQ+ peoples into the wider community, as well as empowering them and giving them skills that will help them give back to the community. LGBTQ+ peoples still face barriers when trying to enter and participate in sports, as well as e-sports. They face discrimination and harassment at all levels of sport, from the community and recreational levels to the professional levels. For e-sport to be used as a tool for development and inclusion, we must work to change sport culture to be more welcoming to gender and sexual minorities. e-LGBT aims at investigating the current state of the art and initiatives to fight cyber-bullism in e-sports and convert them in a tool to help and boost social inclusion of members of LGBTQA+ communities. Throughout the 20 months of the project lifespan, partners of e- LGBT’s consortium will: • Perform research and evaluate 10 best practices per Partner Country on the activities in place to fight cyber-bullism to create an inclusive space for members of the LGBTQA+ community and the role played by e-sports in those programs • Building up on the results of the desk research, partners will create a series of workshops on how to build a safe and inclusive environment in the field of e-sports, how to reach out to members of the LGBTQIA+ community to get them involved in these sports. These methods will be tested in an international mobility, to gain feedback and create a finalize version of these. • The creation of the “e-LGBT tournament”, a week-long tournament of e-sports, where people from all europe will be able to take part online to promote the activities of the project
