Summary

BIAS - Building an Inclusive Attitude in Sports aims at promoting equal opportunity and access to sport, especially judo and martial arts, for children with intellectual disabilities or Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) through the professional and personal development of coaches and, as a consequence, of all children in judo and martial arts courses. We believe that an inclusive attitude, i.e. the attitude to include diversity in all areas of life, can start in education and training, and can ultimately equip all the children (not only the ones with disabilities, but also and in particular neurotypical children) with the qualifications and skills needed for their meaningful participation in democratic society. The Coordinator is a newcomer grassroots association, while the two partners are organizations with outstanding experience in Erasmus+ sport projects. The specific objectives of BIAS Project are: SO1: exchange at EU level methodologies and practices on inclusion of children with intellectual disabilities and ASD, focusing not only on the single child that “needs to be included”, but on the whole sport class: how can we teach “how to be inclusive through sport” to all the children that are attending judo or martial arts classes. SO2: exchange at EU level practices in Inclusive Training Session open to the local stakeholders (other sport organizations and families) in all the 3 countries of the project (Italy, Portugal, Ireland) SO3: promote inclusive martial arts practice for children with intellectual disabilities and ASD through videos and social media coverage of the project The organizations involved in the project have complementary curricula and strong skills in the field of inclusion of children with disabilities through martial arts. Moreover, they can conduct a small-scale implementation and evaluation, that could lead to further experimentation, monitoring and evaluation at large scale, on how to build an inclusive attitude in sport classes
