Baseball and softball in Slovenia are dealing with a shortage of players, especially at the youth levels. The sport faces multiple issues, including low public visibility, insufficient funding, limited diversity of competition, and few coaches. These factors contribute to a low number of active participants in the sport, which in turn only deepens the issues. In order to bring baseball and softball in Slovenia to a sustainable level, we need to break this vicious circle. We can do this with a focused investment of effort and funds to bring more coaches and youth players into the sport. To this end we will strengthen our online presence and organize an outreach campaign with live demonstrations to attract young people to the sport. To mitigate the high initial cost of equipment, we will provide starting equipment to new players at reduced prices. In collaboration with our partners in neighboring Croatia, we will organize international youth baseball tournaments that will ensure diverse competition to keep the players of both clubs engaged and help them grow their skills. At the same time, we can leverage the synergies with our partners to improve the expertise of our respective coaching staffs by sharing experience through practical workshops. With these actions we aim to engage a critical mass of youth players and coaches that will be able to sustain the system in the long term. With more active players and coaches, and better competition, we will attain more public visibility and more funding will become available. This can be continuously invested into replenishing the pool of youth players as earlier generations grow up. Thus, a determined investment now can yield a sustainable system that will introduce many young people to the sport of baseball, along with the physical/health benefits, personal growth and teamwork it brings, for years to come.
