Summary

The European Commission has published the fifth Eurobarometer dedicated to sport and physical activity in 2022. According to the statistics, respondents aged 15-24 years are the most likely to exercise or play sport with some regularity (54%). Despite these figures, the report by the World Health Organization (WHO) on the global situation of physical activity (2022) indicates that currently, 81% of adolescents do not reach the recommended levels of physical activity. The Eurobarometer points out that young people in this age group engage in sport or physical activity for various reasons, including to have fun (40%) or to improve physical performance (38%). Young people also identify the main barriers to being active, mainly a lack of time or motivation. Finally, we also want to highlight the importance of the European Commission's efforts to improve gender equality in sport. This project is dedicated to motivating young people, especially girls and young people who are not in employment, education or training (NEET), who are the most vulnerable group, to engage in physical activity by practicing mixed sports. The main objectives of the project are: - Increasing youth participation in sports for health enhancement, particularly girls and young people who are not in employment, education or training (NEET), using mixed sports as a tool for social inclusion and gender equality. - Enhancing the competencies in the field of sports for staff from organizations with different backgrounds to develop activities and/or projects contributing to social inclusion and gender equality. - Creating a manual of mixed sports to promote their practice among young Europeans. - Establishing a network of partner organizations and facilitating the exchange of best practices on social inclusion and gender equality through mixed sports. that is published through this page expresses the views of the project beneficiaries only and it does not represent the views of the European Union or the European Commission.
