Summary

The WAVES project is an innovative and inclusive initiative that harnesses the universal appeal of water sports to promote health, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability across diverse European communities. In alignment with the Erasmus+ Programme’s priorities, WAVES aims to bridge participation gaps in water sports by prioritizing accessibility and inclusivity. The project ensures that eco-friendly sporting events are designed to be accessible to a wide range of participants, including those from underrepresented groups such as older adults and individuals with fewer opportunities, regardless of age, socio-economic status, or athletic ability. WAVES not only promotes physical well-being but also champions the integration of sustainable practices in sports event management. The project incorporates a comprehensive approach to environmental responsibility by organizing eco-friendly water sports events, developing evidence-based best practices for green event management, and conducting thorough environmental impact assessments for all activities. This focus allows WAVES to contribute actively to the European Green Deal objectives, raising awareness about the role sports can play in addressing climate change and environmental challenges. Furthermore, WAVES addresses the lack of awareness and education on how sports events can be both inclusive and sustainable. The project offers extensive educational programs and training sessions aimed at equipping athletes, organizers, and the general public with the necessary knowledge and skills to implement environmentally friendly practices. These educational components cover sustainable event management, public awareness campaigns, and digital tools for tracking environmental impacts, such as carbon footprint and water usage during events. that is published through this page expresses the views of the project beneficiaries only and it does not represent the views of the European Union or the European Commission.
