ISAVE – Inclusive Self-Advocacy Education and Empowerment for Young Refugees and Asylum Seekers living in temporary accommodations

Background The EU’s objectives in fighting discrimination are to: • improve knowledge about discrimination by raising awareness among the population of their rights and obligations, and also of the benefits of diversity; • support intermediary actors such as NGOs, social partners and equality bodies to improve their capacity to combat discrimination; • support the development of equality policies at the national level and encourage the exchange of good practices between EU countries; • achieve real change in the field of anti-discrimination through training activities; The I-Save project for inclusive self-advocacy for young refugees and asylum seekers (18+) consists of five interrelated outputs that respond to the EU Commission, UNESCO, Unicef and Amnesty International recommendations and aim to fulfil the above objectives. The project aims to develop an educational programme to enhance young people's knowledge of their human rights and make human rights relevant to daily life, in this way empowering them to safeguard their well-being, become self-resilient and independent adults. Objectives The I-Save project is built around Recommendations addressed by the EPIM Report (October 2019), EU Council for youth sector (2019-2027), and “Guidelines" (2019), and with the objectives: to allow for real youth-led co-creation between young refugees and professionals working in youth fields from different backgrounds (volunteering, advocacy, creative arts, human rights), and eventually to develop innovative approaches to the challenges facing young refugees;-to empower young refugees to protect themselves by knowing about their human rights; to develop the capacities and skills of individual migrants to conduct self-advocacy in relation to the policies and practices that concern them; to design the resources for use not only by young people but also service providers, NGOs, and organisations working in the youth field, and migrant youth-led advocacy services; to develop young, migrant led advocacy, online platforms for networking, peer-to-peer learning, online modules in Human Rights and self-advocacy, training resources for youth workers and volunteers working with young refugees, recommendations for policy makers working in youth fields, young refugees and migrants; to enhance a rights-based approach to youth safe-guarding Implementation Creation of Steering Committee of young refugees and migrants in Each Country Regular meetings, trainings, social trips with SC Activities O1 - Interviews with Young Refugees and Migrants - Creation of scripts, filming and producing videos - testing and feedback of Videos by SC - translation of Videos - Upload to Platform Activities O2 - Research on Advocacy and Volunteering - Creation of draft training and testing - Train the Trainer event in Dublin - partners to deliver the HEDGE programme - Feedback, evaluation of HEDGE by partners - Testing of HEDGE Programme with SC members - Roll out of HEDGE training in Each Partner country - Creation of handbook and online version for platform Activities O3 - Development of script - Feedback from SC - Filming+ Editing - Upload to Platform Activities linked to O4 - Creation of I-Save Platform which hosts the HEDGE Programme and all other free resources developed by the project - Testing and Feedback with SC - testing and feedback with other NGOS Multiplier Events ( Roundtables and Seminars) in Each Country Conference in Dublin 9 TPM meetings (Hybrid, online and in person) Presentation of I-SAVE project at conferences including 2nd European Academy on Youth Work in Slovenia Achievements We produced 4 resources that are all available on the I-Save Platform (O4). https://isaveproject.org/ Resources are: ‘The I-Save Videos’ (O1) ‘The HEDGE Programme’ (O2) ‘The I-Save Masterclasses’ (O3) ‘The I-Save Know-How - Policy Recommendation’ (O5)
