Summary

In today's world, particularly in the post-pandemic era, digital literacy has become essential. Nearly every career path and further education opportunity across various industries now requires some degree of digital proficiency. Yet, a concerning statistic indicates that approximately 40% of Europeans aged 16-74 lack these crucial skills. As a result, education and training initiatives need to prioritize not only the development of digital skills but also the ability to innovate, adapt, and learn independently. This is vital for thriving in a technology-driven labor market and aligns with the European Economic Area's (EEA) strategy, led by the European Commission, to strengthen Europe’s educational framework and enhance its success. The project is designed to establish a state-of-the-art, multilingual Digital Competences Development System in line with the European DigComp 2.0 framework for adult educators. This system features a Self-assessment and Recommendation Tool for e-skills (SERT) and an Open Online Course (OOC) that concentrates on teaching e-skills. These tools support adult educators in their professional growth and play a crucial role in fostering a digitally competent society.

Objectives

The initiative targets enhancing digital literacy among Europe's low-skilled adults, providing educators with the tools and guidance necessary for teaching ICT and digital methodologies. It focuses on the vital skills for accessing e-government services, with a significant emphasis on assisting older adults in maintaining and enhancing their competencies for active ageing. A pivotal part of the project is the development of a self-assessment tool tailored for low-skilled adults, aimed at evaluating and tracking their digital literacy, especially in using e-government services. Training will be delivered through a gamified web platform, offering an interactive, step-by-step learning tool designed to make the acquisition of digital skills engaging and effective. Furthermore, the integration with the Open Badges System (OBS) will enable learners to receive digital badges upon completing specific modules, serving as a testament to their achievements and newly acquired competences. The project plans to conduct two specific training sessions to refine and ensure the system's user-friendliness and effectiveness, emphasizing the collaborative effort to empower adults with essential digital skills in today's increasingly digital world.

Activities

The project successfully executed two primary outcomes, hosted five Multiplier Events, and conducted three transnational projects, all of which significantly contributed to achieving the project's objectives. WP1 focused on Project Management to ensure the project met its objectives within the allocated budget and timeframes. This involved overseeing all activities to maintain alignment with the project's goals and timelines. WP2 developed the first project result: a Self-Assessment Tool specifically designed for adult educators. This tool enabled them to effectively assess their competencies in training low-skilled adults in digital skills, enhancing the educational impact. WP3 dedicated efforts to creating the second project result: an Open Online Course that teaches e-skills. This course incorporated gamification as an innovative method to enhance adult learning, significantly increasing motivation and engagement among participants. WP4, Dissemination and Exploitation, involved carrying out regular activities related to communication and information dissemination. This included participating in various meetings with the target group and stakeholders, and writing regular reports on E-Skills to ensure continuous engagement and awareness. WP5, Quality Control and Monitoring, was tasked with monitoring the efficient progress of the activities towards the planned milestones and deliverables. It also ensured that the quality of the results generated and disseminated aligned with the application form, maintaining high standards throughout the project. WP6, Sustainability, was responsible for assessing the sustainability plans developed, ensuring the project's long-term impact and effectiveness. This work package ensured that the project's achievements would continue to benefit adult educators and learners well beyond its conclusion.

Impact

The project introduced two key outcomes alongside six significant activities to enhance adult education: R1 - SERT (Self-assessment and Recommendation Tool): A tool was developed to offer educators insights into the digital competences of low-skilled adults, aligning with the DigComp Framework. This aided in assessing and improving digital literacy effectively. R2 - OOC (Open Online Course): A multilingual e-learning platform was established, featuring innovative e-learning courses and open online courses on ICT-based teaching methods for educators working with adults. These online courses were designed to ensure that trainers acquired essential skills and knowledge. Additionally, the developed online materials were made reusable and adaptable, enhancing the sustainability and reach of the educational content. R3 - 3 Multiplier Events for 130 Participants: To promote the project and support the development of the two primary outcomes, five Multiplier Events were organized across four partner countries, targeting a total of 250 participants. These events played a crucial role in disseminating project achievements and fostering collaboration among stakeholders. The project also yielded several intangible results during its lifespan and beyond, including: Enhanced digital competences among low-skilled adults, facilitating social integration. Improved digital literacy among adults, contributing to broader educational goals. Increased personal accomplishment and satisfaction among adults, leading to a more active and healthier lifestyle in their later years. The development and testing of a training program, along with e-learning and e-assistance tools, specifically designed to equip adults with the skills needed to access public services digitally. An effective methodology for high-quality adult education in five European countries and beyond, leveraging a confidence-building approach and interactive techniques. Valuable knowledge and experience acquired by partner organizations in transnational cooperation, project management, and innovative practices aimed at including older adults. These efforts significantly impacted adult education by enhancing digital literacy, promoting social integration, and supporting lifelong learning among older adults across Europe.
