Summary

We applied for this project to address the critical need for upskilling pathways that enhance accessibility and increase the take-up of adult education, particularly focusing on individuals at risk of social and professional exclusion. Our primary goal was to leverage lifelong learning as a pivotal tool for fostering employability, social, and civic development among adults with lower levels of skills. This initiative was driven by an understanding that motivated learners, when provided with the right tools and resources, can effectively navigate their learning journeys, stay abreast of the latest information, and make empowered choices about their education. The project addressed key needs: Bridging the digital skill gap, crucial for employability and social participation. Enhancing self-confidence and communication skills, vital for societal engagement and personal growth. Creating inclusive learning opportunities to develop essential skills for the labor market and societal integration. In essence, our project provided adults with the tools and resources for self-improvement and learning, aligning with the latest demands of a digitalized world.

Objectives

The primary objective of our project was to enhance cultural awareness, civic engagement, and social inclusion among adults, with a special focus on developing digital skills and fostering self-directed learning and interpersonal skills. By creating and disseminating course content tailored for adult education, we aimed to: -Equip migrants, refugees, and individuals working with these groups with essential IT-based skills, addressing the digital divide and enhancing integration. -Boost self-confidence in adults through skill development in public speaking and presentation, enabling them to better participate in the workforce and society. -Support adults in establishing their own businesses or securing suitable employment by enhancing their job-search skills and entrepreneurial abilities. Through these objectives, we sought to provide adults with the tools necessary for personal and professional development, thereby increasing their opportunities for meaningful employment and societal participation.

Activities

Throughout the project development, we conducted six Transnational Project meetings, comprising three virtual and three physical gatherings. These meetings were planned around significant milestones to ensure effective coordination and decision-making among all partners. Meeting 1 (virtual, hosted by the responsible partner, Germany) will was helt at the project's outset in January 2022. The primary objective was to introduce key project aspects such as management, coordination, dissemination, and quality planning. Presentation of PR1 will be a focal point to align on topics and skills to be developed in minor training courses and preparatory research. Meeting 2 (virtual hosted by the responsible partner, Germany) was held to further discuss PR1. Meeting 3 (hosted by the responsible partner, Italy) in May 2022 was about finalization of the content of PR1, determine PR2 content, share project progress, and prepare dissemination materials. Meeting 4 (hosted by the responsible partner Poland) did assess progress, close tasks from PR1 and PR2, and plan activities for the next phase. Meeting 5 (virtual, hosted by the responsible partner EISA, Türkiye) in January 2023 did evaluate applied courses and discuss participation, feedback, and initiation of PR4. Partners discussed methods for creating deliverables and ensuring sustainability. Meeting 6 + 7 (virtual, hosted by the responsible partner, Germany) in May and September 2023 focussed on progress sharing and evaluating activities from PR2, PR3, and PR4. Meeting 8 (physical, hosted by the responsible partner Germany) concentrated on progress sharing, preparation of dissemination materials, and finalizing tasks to close the project. Partners discussed the sustainability plan for project outcomes. In the implementation of our project, we focused on a series of carefully designed activities aimed at achieving our objectives and delivering the planned results. These activities were structured around the development and utilization of Project Results (PRs), which directly contributed to skills development among adult learners, especially those at high risk of exclusion. Here is an overview of the key activities we implemented: Development of a Digital Learning Environment: We created an accessible online platform optimized for mobile use, where our training system and resources were hosted. This platform served as the primary tool for delivering the educational content and engaging the learners. Creation of Training Systems and Minor Courses: We developed 18 distinct minor courses under three main key competencies of lifelong learning. These courses were designed to develop personal, social, and learning-to-learn competencies, aligning with EU lifelong learning policies. Adaptation of Training Resources: All training materials were tailored to ensure they were easily accessible, understandable, and applicable for the participants, enabling them to not only learn but also to apply and produce outcomes based on their learning. Engagement in Learning Challenges: Through the courses, participants were encouraged to engage in practical challenges that facilitated the improvement of their personal and social capacities, digital skills, and entrepreneurial abilities. Project Management and Collaboration: Our project team was actively involved in management, reporting, and evaluation tasks. We also engaged in continuous communication and collaboration with our partners through transnational project meetings, both virtual and physical, to ensure alignment and effective execution of the project activities. Testing and Feedback: We conducted open-ended consultations and testing phases with our target group of end-users to refine our training system and resources based on direct feedback. Dissemination Activities: To raise awareness and share our results, we engaged in a variety of dissemination activities, utilizing platforms such as EPALE, the School Education Gateway, and the Erasmus+ Project Results Platform. These activities included competitions and sharing of materials, ensuring broad visibility and impact of our project outcomes.

Impact

The project successfully achieved several concrete outputs and results, significantly impacting adult learners and the broader educational community. These include: https://key-competences.eu/ Digital Learning Environment: A comprehensive online platform was developed, offering accessible, mobile-optimized learning resources. This platform serves as a central hub for our educational content, facilitating the self-directed learning of adult learners. Training System and Minor Courses: We created and implemented 18 minor courses covering three main key competencies of lifelong learning: digital skills, personal and social skills, and learning to learn competencies. These courses were designed to meet the diverse needs of adult learners, particularly those at risk of exclusion, and were made freely available on our digital platform. Inclusive Learning Resources: All training materials and resources were adapted to ensure ease of access, understanding, and application. This approach allowed learners to not only absorb the content but also to apply what they learned in practical, real-world contexts. Engagement and Skill Development Activities: Participants engaged in various learning challenges and activities, enhancing their personal, social, and digital competencies. This hands-on approach fostered a deeper understanding and practical application of the skills taught. Project Management and Collaborative Efforts: Through effective project management and collaborative efforts, including regular communication and transnational meetings, the project team ensured the seamless execution and implementation of project activities. This collaborative environment fostered innovation and shared learning among partners. Feedback and Refinement: Direct feedback from open-ended consultations and testing phases with the target group informed the refinement of the training system and resources, ensuring they met the learners' needs effectively. Dissemination and Outreach: Utilizing platforms such as EPALE, School Education Gateway, and the Erasmus+ Project Results Platform, the project’s visibility and impact were significantly enhanced. Dissemination activities, including competitions and the sharing of resources, engaged a wide audience and promoted the project's goals and outcomes. Sustainability and Accessibility: The project outcomes, including the digital learning environment and course materials, were made available under a Creative Commons license, ensuring their long-term sustainability and accessibility to educators and learners beyond the project's lifespan.
