Cre'ART'ive GREEN Minds
▶Summary
It is of great importance to understand 'Sustainable Development' so that natural and environmental resources meet today's needs without compromising the needs of future generations. We took this initiative to create an awareness about the importance of Sustainable Development and to ensure that individuals adopt environmentally-friendly and sustainability-friendly attitudes. Our project aimed to create awareness of participants between the ages of 16-26 in terms of ecological values by making them more critical and conscious about "environmental values and sustainable development". In them, we aimed to encourage behavioural changes for consumption habits and lifestyles that support sustainable development at an individual level. This project organised activities to achieve its goal by combining traditional approaches with modern approaches (art and creativity) and combining theory with practice. It encouraged participants to acquire knowledge, process it and adapt it to real life situations. Participants were involved in the subject as much as possible with an inquiry-based learning approach, question-answer, discussion, brainstorming, and applied methods.
▶Objectives
We wanted to achieve these goals: *Ensure participants, who are consumers, question their role in protecting the environment & guide them to make environmentally-friendly choices *Create behavioural change in participants for consumption habits & lifestyles that support sustainable development at an individual level *Increase the sensitivity of the participants to environmental problems *Change the 'disposable' philosophy of participants and support their creativity on 'recycling & upcycling' issues, and increase their knowledge/awareness on these issues *Increase the knowledge and awareness of participants about the 3 basic dimensions of Sustainable Development (Ecological, Social & Economic) *Ensure the participants adopt the ecological life philosophy and support them to be environment-friendly individuals *Increase interest of the participants in ecology and art *Support participants in the student group to participate in education more effectively *Integrate the theoretically oriented information about the environment with practice *Support the 2021-2027 EU strategic goal of 'making the EU green sustainable'
▶Activities
The first 3 months of the project were reserved for preparation and the last 3 months for the evaluation process. The remaining 12 months were devoted to activities focusing on each dimension of Sustainable Development (SD) - (Economic, Social and Ecological dimensions; 4 months for each dimension). Apart from these, we planned 2 TPMs (in Italy and Norway) to determine the steps to be taken in the project and to evaluate the progress of the project. 3 LTTAs were planned within the scope of the project (in Denmark, Spain and Türkiye). Additionally, each partner institution carried out many activities locally. The aim here was to engage both the main participants and other local institutions in the project activities. Activities for each dimension of SD will lasted 4 months. In the starting month of each dimension, we organised a webinar. The webinar was the opening activity of each 4-month period. The webinar was about the subject of its period and was done online (for example, the webinar on "SD and Economic dimension" for the period of the economic dimension of sustainable development.). 1st Period: Sustainable Development and its Ecological Dimension: During this 4-month period, all partners performed many activities locally, including: - Webinar (SD and Ecological dimension): It was held online and coordinated by Denmark - Seedling / flower planting activity - Street interviews - Interviews were held with the public about 'Recycling and Waste Management' - "Do not consume, produce!" Competition - A competition to create a product by recycling or upcycling from waste products was held - Documentary screening on World Environment Day (5th June): Documentary screenings about the environment were shown to local communities. After informing the audience about the project content and objectives, the documentary was screened - Making holiday cards with waste materials, etc. 2nd Period: Sustainable Development and its Social Dimension - During this 4-month period, all partners performed many activities locally, including: - Webinar (SD and Social dimension): A webinar was held online, and coordinated by Spain. - Street interviews - Interviews with the public about 'Sustainable Development' were held and filmed - Brainstorming - How do our daily habits affect Sustainable Development at the individual level? (online) - Theater Performance: "Show your GREEN skills!": The school partners (Türkiye and Spain) and Italy (art organisation) prepared an overlapping theatre show for the project. These shows were hosted both locally and in the guest country during the last LTTA (in Türkiye) 3rd Period: Sustainable Development and its Economic Dimension: - Webinar (SD and economic dimension) held by Türkiye - "Art and Sustainability Painting Exhibition": Students from schools (TR and ES) and Italian youth workers made sustainability-themed paintings. The pictures were shown in exhibitions prepared in each institution, and many other institutions from the region were invited. - Holiday card preparation activity (from waste materials) - 'Ride a bike!' activity Within the scope of the project, we aimed to engage all participants in project activities as much as possible, because only in this way could their level of consciousness increase and they could become environmentally friendly individuals.
▶Impact
We had the following results from the project: - Increased awareness of participants on environmental problems, - Increased knowledge of the participants on environmental issues such as sustainable development (SD), 3 dimensions of SD and goals of SD, - Changed the 'use and throw it away' philosophy of the participants and supported their creativity in 'recycling and upcycling' issues, and increased their knowledge-awareness on these issues, - Enabled participants, who are consumers, to question their roles in the protection of the environment and thus become more conscious individuals, - Integrated theoretical-oriented education on ecology in schools with practice, - Ensured exchange of skills, ideas and working methods among participants, - Promoted social inclusion and solidarity among young people who came together for common purposes, - Developed creativity, critical and analytical thinking in participants, - Supported participants in the student group to participate in education more effectively, - Provided participants with disadvantaged backgrounds or few opportunities, the opportunity to gain positive experiences - Emphasised the role of schools and NGOs as catalysts in social change, - Promoted diversity, intercultural dialogue, common values of freedom, tolerance and respect for human rights among the participants, a better understanding of the values of European identity in daily life, - Established new links for further European cooperation. The project led to a number of positive changes at the level of all partner schools: - The development of the relationship between teachers and students. Parents became more aware of the key role the school plays in developing future citizens who contribute to the development of society. - Schools increased cooperation with local institutions and improved/strengthened their image in society. - Institutions benefited from more motivated and more active students and teachers. - Participation of disadvantaged students, who were given priority in project mobilities; they had the opportunity to create effective results in terms of their position in society. The focus of the project was to direct the attention of participants to environmental problems and to raise awareness of how individual choices affect environmental health. Our only responsibility, however, is not just to emphasise this, but at the same time, to do our best in areas such as teamwork, socio-emotional development, and respect. 1.
