▶Objectives
The RE-MAIN project tackled critical gaps in industrial maintenance training, focusing on equipping students and the workforce with essential skills to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving sector. It emphasized remote maintenance competences such as variable monitoring, secure remote connections, and corrective maintenance. The training specifically targeted unemployed individuals and vulnerable groups, fostering inclusivity and expanding access to opportunities in the industry. A major objective was designing a pilot course aligned with current industry needs, serving as a foundation for sustainability and enabling adaptation by other training entities across Europe. Beyond student training, the project aimed to enhance the capacities of participating organizations, promoting European collaboration and the adoption of innovative approaches. Recognizing the challenges faced by educators, RE-MAIN provided regular training sessions and developed guidelines to help them effectively utilize new tools and methodologies. By achieving these goals, the project established a modern, inclusive, and sustainable framework for industrial maintenance training, bridging gaps between industry needs and workforce skills.
▶Activities
1. Development of the RE-MAIN eBook: The project created an eBook providing a comprehensive overview of remote maintenance practices in participating countries. Each partner contributed a chapter that included literature, publications, methodologies, and tools relevant to their context. The eBook, compiled in PDF and EPUB formats, has been in all project languages and is easily accessible to any interested parties. 2. Design and Pilot Implementation of the RE-MAIN Transnational Training Programme: Based on the insights and main conclusion from the eBook, the partners collaboratively developed a specialised training programme aimed at enhancing participants' employability. The programme, coordinated by MTU and supported by the technical expertise and equipment of FESTO, was hosted on the iMooX open training platform. After design, the training was piloted using advanced laboratory equipment, allowing students to remotely access and engage with modules from other centres. This programme functioned as a true transnational initiative, as partners successfully operated remote machinery models and equipment across the participating countries of the project. This setup made the classes highly interactive and leveraged international cooperation among the partners, providing students with a unique opportunity to experience cross-border collaboration in real-time industrial maintenance scenarios. In addition, a real practice was carried out between two of the partners: CRN Leganés and ENAIP, due to the similar profile of the students, where it was possible to connect remotely and carry out cross-border corrective maintenance practices. All this was thanks to the equipment and manuals of the partner FESTO, which was a success and the target audience (students) could experience first-hand the RE-MAIN project. 3. Creation of RE-MAIN Technical Guidelines for Educators: A detailed guide for educators was developed in order to support the delivery of the training programme. This guide incorporated theoretical and technical aspects of the training, along with best practices for implementation. Feedback from pilot participants was used to refine the guide and improve the training content. 4. Multiplier Events: Held during the final three months of the project, these events showcased the project results to stakeholders and facilitated the transfer of outcomes to other interested entities. Globally, over 200 participants were hosted in these events where the projects’ achievements and future collaborations were highlighted.
▶Impact
PR1 RE-MAIN eBook: A comprehensive publication providing an overview of the state-of-the-art in remote maintenance practices across the participating countries. Each partner contributed a chapter, making it a collaborative and multi-perspective resource. The eBook was published in PDF and EPUB formats and made freely available in all project languages. This resource served as a foundational document for the development of subsequent project outputs. PR2 RE-MAIN Transnational Training Programme: A cutting-edge training programme for VET students in the industrial sector, designed with a strong focus on transnationality, practicality, and employability. The programme featured four pilot courses, training 80 students across different modules. It stood out as a true transnational initiative, enabling partners to operate remote machinery and equipment across borders, making the classes highly interactive and emphasizing international collaboration. This setup not only enhanced the learning experience but also provided real-world insights into cross-border industrial maintenance practices. PR3 RE-MAIN Guidelines for Educators: A detailed handbook aimed at supporting educators in the implementation of the training programme. It included recommendations, tools, practical tips, and links to resources for effectively delivering the modules and mentoring students. Designed to be dynamic, the guidelines were published online to allow regular updates and improvements based on new insights and feedback from the pilot courses. In addition to these results, the project implemented strong communication activities, such as a dedicated website, participation in other European project multiplier events and active participation in social media, thanks to the creation of a Dissemination and Communication Plan. The consortium organised five multiplier events to disseminate the project results and strengthen connections with the industrial sector, culminating in a final event organised by FESTO. The project management ensured efficient coordination thanks to an elaborated Quality and Risk Plan, producing all the necessary documentation to guarantee the smooth running and compliance with the programme requirements. These concrete results and additional efforts contributed to advancing vocational training in industrial maintenance, filling critical skills gaps and adapting education to the demands of the sector.or.
