Summary

We wanted to start a club called Hiking Agents. The main idea was to hike in local nature. There was a vast demand of extra curricular activities, and the club offered pupils scheduled and organized tasks and challenges. During the club time pupils hiked in local environment studying flora and fauna. By getting close to nature, pupils will learn to appreciate biodiversity, observe threats and work as active pro-nature agents. We wanted to make pupils move more outdoors. Pupils planned, implemented and resolved nature tasks with their partner countries. We have responded to the need to consider sustainable development in education and in the lives of all citizens. We have given students the opportunity to participate in the club after the school day and move around in nature without smart devices. The students have also learned problem-solving skills and cooperation skills while developing and checking challenges together.

Objectives

We planned to start a club called Hiking Agents. The main idea was to hike in local nature. By getting close to nature, pupils will learn to appreciate biodiversity, observe threats and work as active pro-nature agents. They will plan and carry out tasks connected to nature. This project teached how to behave in nature, about biodiversity, about sustainable development and consumption as well as environmental actions. We also want to visit our participant countries, share information and nature experiences. The ideas of sustainability will hopefully stay with participants for long.

Activities

We have had Hiking Agents Clubs in Finland and in Portugal during the whole project time. We hiked in local nature and visited in different local nature places and visited with students in both partner countries. Pupils carried out tasks and shared ideas and solutions related to nature and sustainable development together In Finland and in Portugal. We made visits with students and teachers in Portugal and in Finland. We made with students and teachers a website from our project. https://sites.google.com/huutjarvenkoulu.fi/hiking-agents-erasmus-hanke/etusivu
