▶Objectives
To support patient-centered care and evidence-based decision-making, nurses need structured education that covers genetic risk assessment, ethical and legal implications, and the use of genomics in disease prevention and treatment. By developing a comprehensive education model, the GN project ensures that future nurses are well-prepared to meet the growing demand for genomic-informed care and contribute to the broader goals of personalized medicine in Europe, equipping nursing teachers and students with essential genomic literacy, ethical knowledge, and counseling skills. The project specifically targets partner universities—Tampere University of Applied Sciences, University of L'Aquila, University of Ljubljana, and University College Cork—to enhance their capacity for integrating genomic nursing education into their curricula.
▶Activities
The GenoNurse (GN) project implemented various interdisciplinary activities, including international and online collaboration, five consortium partner meetings and monthly online meetings to coordinate efforts. Events and dissemination activities were organized, including local and national teaching seminars, Ethical, Case study and Community webinars to engage teachers, students and stakeholders. Teachers pilots in every university. Student pilots were conducted with 222 participants, integrating genomic education into nursing curricula. Wider outreach efforts involved hosting national and international webinars, conference presentations, and publications to raise awareness and share findings. Academic contributions included completing four literature reviews and publishing an eBook documenting the project’s educational framework and impact.
