Changer Les Idées locales par des actions de sensibilisation organisées par des enfants de différentes écoles

How can we raise awareness among children aged 5 to 16 about the effects of global warming without being pessimistic and anxiety-provoking, and encourage them to become fully-fledged players and future eco-citizens of tomorrow? This was the starting point for the "Climat Kids" project, or changing children's ideas through awareness-raising activities tailored to European children from schools with different cultural and climatic backgrounds. Children in Guadeloupe, a French outermost region living on an island, and those in the Netherlands on the European mainland are confronted with the effects of global warming and the need to adapt to it in their daily lives. The aim of the Climat Kids project is to raise awareness among young people aged 5 to 16, through youth workers (teachers, youth workers, etc.), of the common environmental issues and challenges linked to the climate transition (RC) by giving them tools and methodological advice to help them become informed and actively involved in the ecological transition. The reasons for applying for the Climat kids project were first and foremost to exchange best teaching practices relating to awareness-raising and education activities on the environment, and in particular context.

The first aim of the Climat Kids project is to pool educational approaches on a European scale and disseminate non-formal education tools and approaches adapted to the age and environmental context of the target audiences. The second aim is to create a sustainable and inclusive awareness-raising dynamic for young Europeans aged 5 to 16 about the issues involved in combating the effects of climate change, by helping to create transnational networks of young people involved in climate change issues. In concrete terms, the objectives were for : - Children: to exchange knowledge with other European children, to become aware of the effects of the RC in Europe, and to involve them in activities to take action for the ecological transition. To do this, we looked for a European school involved in environmental education for young people. To do this, we worked in partnership with the KIEM school in the Netherlands, which has the UNESCO label and has been involved in environmental education issues for several years.

Climat kids has enabled three main types of activity to be implemented: 1) Awareness-raising activities on the effects and threats to biodiversity caused by climate change, involving 6 door projects for each class involved. 2) Study visits A study visit to the Netherlands by a delegation of Guadeloupean teachers from 22 to 29 May 2022. 3) Final transnational event The final transnational event of the Climat Kids project to disseminate the results of the project. In parallel, the partner organisations took part in and organised dissemination events (webinar meetings, presentation of the project to local partners, in the media, etc.).

Firstly, for the projects implemented : Lycée Yves Leborgne: Rediscovery of the Bonne Maison pond: study of biodiversity and restoration. Collège Olympe Rame: testimonies from senior citizens and photo research on the effects of global warming. on the effects of global warming. Marcelle Borifax nursery school: discovery of the Mangrove swamp and its usefulness. Pluie d'étoiles Montessori School: Creation of a permaculture vegetable garden to raise awareness of local consumption. Netherlands: KIEM Collège Montessori: hire of a canoe to collect plastic from canals and recycle it into a canoe. Lycée Montessori: awareness-raising workshops in a primary school. The classes from Guadeloupe and the Netherlands have planned a monthly video meeting and have also shared information on the progress of their respective awareness-raising activities, on Europe's environmental priorities and a presentation to the teachers involved on the Erasmus + Action School Education programme. 2) Study visit to the Netherlands by a delegation of Guadeloupean teachers from 22 to 29 May 2022, 6 school teachers. 3) Final transnational event to disseminate the results.
