Green buildings : from the past to the future.

Through this project, we aim to: Foster learning in professional education (quantification, rating, planning, architecture, etc.). Indeed, most students in France have been placed in default classes and did not choose the construction field as their first choice upon leaving middle school. Acquire new skills in mathematics and physics. Develop skills in foreign languages and digital literacy. Our main objective was to raise awareness among students and teachers about the importance of further work on energetically efficient and environmentally responsible homes. We also aimed for teaching teams to have the opportunity to exchange good practices and discover new methods to integrate into their courses.

During the two years of the project, students worked on activities to promote learning about eco-friendly construction methods. In French Guiana, significant work was done on the principles of bio-climatic building construction with numerous interventions from the AQUA association (Association for Urban and Architectural Quality). Initially, visits to old buildings were conducted by various partners to demonstrate the physical principles governing construction rules. Subsequently, each high school conducted site visits to observe the different trades present and the work carried out. Students worked on various materials to create more energy-efficient buildings. In France, we used joint teaching sessions in professional and physics education to conduct training on building thermodynamics and electrical power and energy. In a third phase, students worked on waste valorization during building demolition. They had to consider the use of materials from the construction phase. Finally, they applied all this knowledge to work on building renovation. In French Guiana, they also worked on plans for the construction or renovation of buildings as part of their final project. Our priorities during the development of the project were: To promote student learning by allowing them to discover methods and construction rules used by our partners. To promote inclusion. To develop digital skills among the various participants. To explore new cultures in order to develop common values and civic engagement for each individual. For each theme, a magazine presenting the different works was written in collaboration with the various partners. This magazine was distributed to the different partners (schools in the sector, businesses, the education authority, etc.). The students created posters and videos on the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), with the aim of encouraging their use to reduce the risk of accidents. Each school also organized an exhibition to present the project during open days. A website was also created and showcases most of the work.
