▶Summary
The project addresses low employability among individuals with significant cognitive neurodiversity (e.g., autism, Asperger's syndrome), who are often unfairly labeled as 'disabled' and seen as unsuitable for work. However, many possess valuable but unrecognized skills. Employment of neurodiverse individuals often depends on the discretion of social workers or agencies, lacking a structured approach. While clinical and behavioral sciences offer insights and diagnostic tools for neurodiversity, the link between this knowledge and its application in the labor market remains underdeveloped. Despite advances in understanding, meaningful employment integration for neurodiverse individuals is still lacking. This project has developed methodologies and tools to create repeatable inclusion processes, ensuring integration is systematic. About one in 70 people in Europe are neurodiverse, and many remain marginalized in the labor market. Through the Erasmus Plus network, the project tested tools across Europe to assess and maximize employment opportunities for neurodiverse individuals.
▶Objectives
The project successfully met its objectives of recognizing and valuing the hidden talents of neurodiverse individuals by providing verifiable credentials that unlock access to the labor market. Key achievements include: Adaptation and Implementation: Developed frameworks to identify, assess, and validate the unique skills of neurodiverse individuals. Pilot Testing: Demonstrated the feasibility of these services in three European countries, proving the model works across different cultural and economic contexts. Scalable Model: Defined a model that can be applied on a larger scale for targeted placement and skill validation, ensuring long-term impact. Training for Employment Agencies: Trained agency staff to deliver skills validation services tailored to neurodiverse individuals, facilitating their workforce entry. Digitization and Blockchain Integration: Initiated the digitization of the validation process, including blockchain-based registration for transparency, security, and long-term recognition of qualifications. Through these achievements, the project has created a sustainable, replicable model that bridges the gap between diagnosis and employment, giving neurodiverse individuals a fairer chance in the labor market.
▶Activities
The project implemented several key activities designed to support the validation and integration of neurodiverse individuals into the labor market: • Skills Validation: Developed and tested an operational framework for identifying and validating the skills of neurodiverse individuals. This included specific tools and metrics to assess both cognitive and non-cognitive abilities, providing a structured approach to understanding their unique skillsets. • Exchange and Experimentation of Best Practices: The consortium gathered, documented, and shared best practices, procedures, and service models. These resources were made available to third-sector organizations and employment services to support the validation and certification pathways for neurodiverse users. • Pilot Experimentation and Modeling: Conducted skills identification, assessment, and validation services for a group of 30 neurodiverse individuals across France, Italy, and Spain. This experimentation demonstrated that targeted placements and objective skill validation could significantly enhance the employability of neurodiverse users. • Operator Training: Designed modular training courses for professionals working with neurodiverse individuals. These courses were offered both online and in-person, in collaboration with training centers and universities, ensuring broad accessibility and the dissemination of the knowledge required to facilitate successful integration. • Web Platform Development: Created a digital platform to manage skills certificates, user profiles, and assessment tools. The platform ensures openness and replicability through the use of interoperable technologies, including blockchain, providing secure and long-term recognition of validated skills. • Monitoring and Evaluation: Implemented a systematic monitoring system to oversee the processes, content, and outcomes of the project. This system was verified by specially trained independent evaluators to ensure the validity and effectiveness of the project’s activities
