Objectives

The primary objective of the MediAware project is to combat misinformation and fake news, particularly among our target groups who are more easily influenced online due to an uncontrolled environment lacking content filtering. In the digital era, a new kind of literacy is required where individuals must confidently use technology, the internet, and social media. MediAware was implemented within the framework of UNESCO's definition of media and information literacy, which enables citizens to understand media functions, critically evaluate content, and make informed decisions as users and producers of information. This includes recognizing how information is produced, understanding the codes and languages of messages, interpreting stories, identifying values and viewpoints, and distinguishing "true" from "false" news. MediAware met the needs of educators by equipping and training them on these issues, enabling them to empower and train our target groups—adults and youngsters in both formal and non-formal training settings. By achieving this, we fostered a well-informed, critically thinking, and actively engaged citizenship able of navigating the complexities of the digital information landscape.
