Digital, entrepreneurial and sustainability skills development and assessment to motivate adult learners in accessing upskilling or re-skilling possibilities.
▶Summary
The partners had formed the partnership to explore novel ways of aiding adult learners and understanding vital transversal skills essential for the job market. These partners were already conducting programs for personal and professional growth among the target group. This collaboration aimed to enhance their efficacy in delivering tailored services. The project tackled the absence of dedicated adult learning programs and the need for clear criteria to assess 'employability skills'. Adult education had less structure compared to formal schooling, limiting opportunities for improvement. While compulsory education now includes transversal and 'life skills', those who left school over two decades ago missed out. Consequently, transversal skills were taught in various courses—communication, organization, leadership, public speaking, negotiation, customer service—leaving adult learners unaware of their knowledge gaps.
▶Objectives
Ob1 Partnership readiness improved via knowledge sharing among partners and stakeholder involvement. Ob2 Partner comprehension of XXI century EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS grew through three rounds of focus groups. Ob3 Partners' ability to aid adult learners was heightened through three workshops, each with nine educators, enhancing their facilitation skills. Ob4 Tested three short courses enhancing EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS with 30 adult learners. Ob5 SKILLUP results' usability and relevance boosted by validating outcomes with experts. Ob6 Project ensured visibility by actively engaging local stakeholders in promotion and dissemination. SKILL-UP used digital, entrepreneurial, sustainability skills to motivate adult learners for upskilling in the 15-month project. Partners collaborated to provide tools like trainers' kit, short courses, skills checklists, aiding low-skilled adults in acquiring competencies and re-entering the labor market.
▶Activities
The project implemented various activities, including creating modules on employability skills (transversal, digital, and sustainability), conducting workshops to develop course materials, testing these materials with adult learners, assembling and digitizing the toolkit, validating its content, promoting short courses to SMEs, collecting feedback from HR experts, entrepreneurs, and trainers, finalizing the toolkit and exploitation plan, and sharing insights during the project's final meeting. The aim was to ensure a complete, useful, and relevant toolkit for stakeholders.
▶Impact
The project's concrete outputs encompassed the creation of three distinct modules focusing on transversal, digital, and sustainability skills. These modules were carefully structured, incorporating handouts, exercises, and valuable workshop materials. Through collaborative workshops involving partner educators, comprehensive assessment tools, role-playing scenarios, and exercises were formulated. Subsequently, these modules underwent testing with adult learners, gathering invaluable feedback for refinement. The finalized modules were compiled into a comprehensive toolkit, meticulously assembled by IEL with the aid of local e-learning experts, while translations were performed by partner organizations. The toolkit's content was validated through local events, ensuring accuracy and completeness, and was also an avenue for promoting short courses to SMEs, encouraging broader participation in adult learning initiatives. Stakeholder comments were incorporated into an exploitation plan, and the toolkit was made available for dissemination, marking a successful conclusion to the project's efforts.
