Summary

The applicant for the project was the Movement of Roma Students, z. s. This organization is an association of Roma students and graduates whose goal is to use acquired knowledge and skills to improve the living standards of Roma. The main activity of the association is activities that lead to the support of young Roma participation in democratic life and involvement in civil society. Furthermore, the applicant focuses on supporting the education and acquisition of skills of young Roma. The Roma student movement has not yet received any financial support from EU funds. Through the project, the association addressed the significant need to gain experience with project implementation at the European level and to professionalize the organization's personnel capacities. As part of the "Young Roma Democrats" project, the applicant focused on the need to strengthen the political involvement of young Roma and their participation in democratic life. Through project activities, the association solved in an authentic way the lack of political engagement and participation in the democratic life of young Roma in the Czech Republic. The low participation of Roma in democratic life is a significant obstacle to their emancipation and inclusion.

Objectives

By implementing the project, the applicant achieved the support of active citizenship of the target group - young Czech Roma and their involvement in democratic life in the Czech Republic. The representatives of the applicant organization have a long-term ambition to actively participate in Czech civil society. The implementation of the project was a significant milestone for the personnel capacities of the association for obtaining authentic information and practical experience in politics and in the field of municipal management. Therefore, the applicant chose the path of an innovative approach and implemented a small-scale partnership with Zlaté Klasy. By implementing the project, the applicant wanted to cooperate with the municipality to gain experience with the direct participation of Roma in politics, specifically at the municipal level. The Zlaté Klasy municipality was led by a Roma mayor and 11 Roma municipal representatives. By carrying out the project activities, the applicant organization wanted to train its representatives in the field of the election process, municipal management, and gain and share the authentic experience of a partner with an example of good practice in the involvement of Roma in democratic life.

Activities

As part of the project, the applicant prepared and implemented 1 five-day training for representatives of the applicant's organization on the topic of active citizenship, Roma participation in democratic life and the success of Roma candidates in the Slovak municipal elections in 2018. The aim of the training was the development, transfer and sharing of knowledge, skills and innovative approaches between of Zlaté Klasy and the Roma Students' Movement. The training took place with the participation of representatives of the Movement of Roma Students and representatives of the village of Zlaté Klasy. In addition, the project management activity was implemented as part of the project. It was a necessary activity that ensured the correct, effective and factual implementation of project activities. Project management included the activities of planning, financing, accounting, coordination and communication between cooperating organizations. Another project activity was the transnational project meetings, which served to ensure the successful and smooth preparation and implementation of the project. Thanks to the project meetings, the applicant solved problems/challenges in the implementation of the partnership.

Impact

The result of the project was the preparation and implementation of transnational project meetings, the training of representatives of the Roma Student Movement in the village of Zlaté Klasy, and the implementation of small-scale partnerships and project management. The result of the project was the gain, development and bilateral sharing of authentic knowledge and practical experience in the field of civic engagement and participation of Roma in democratic life and municipal management. The output of the project was the training of 15 representatives of the Roma Student Movement with the participation of 12 representatives of the municipality of Zlaté Klasy on the topic of municipal elections and voting, political mandate, campaigning, marketing, principles of active citizenship and the case of electoral success in Slovak municipal elections in 2018. The output of the project management activity was creation of supporting documents for training, accounting, evaluation and preparation of the final report of the project.
