▶Objectives
The aim of the EU project “Career Intelligence” was to promote career guidance and career planning for young people across Europe and to promote the meaningful use of artificial intelligence (AI) in vocational education and training in the long term and sustainably. The starting point was the “Career 4.0” learning platform, which has already been successfully tested in seven EU countries. By implementing a virtual learning assistant, learning and feedback processes were improved in relation to the development of a personal development plan. A motivating learning environment was created in which young people and learning guides can interact, test and reflect on AI-supported learning technologies. In addition, a methodological-didactic program for skills development in the form of self-learning modules for educational stakeholders (e.g. learning guides, vocational and career counselors, (vocational) schools) was developed and evaluated. The aim was to qualify them for the application of AI and IT solutions in vocational training in order to provide learners with more individual support. Finally, the project has made a major contribution to the establishment of a Europe-wide network of mentors and experts in particular.
▶Activities
The project focused on the development and testing of the project results (1 to 11). A kick-off workshop, two milestone meetings and the final conference served to coordinate and ensure the quality of the project activities. Two learning, teaching and training activities were carried out to test and further develop the VLA “Botty” and the self-learning modules. Two pre-tests, a local mentor training course and pilot projects lasting several days with young people and mentors took place in each of the partner countries, during which the VLA was presented and intensively evaluated. In addition, the IAW initiated a pre-test with international students at the RUB in cooperation with the “MyCareer” project as well as two empirical studies on the evaluation of the learning platform. This ensured that relevant stakeholders from all project countries were actively involved in the development and were able to evaluate and further develop the user-friendliness of the learning platform. In addition to press and public relations measures, two multiplier events in each partner country contributed significantly to the dissemination of the project results.
▶Impact
The comprehensive further development of the “Career 4.0” learning platform is a key result. The centerpiece is the virtual learning assistant (VLA) “Botty”, which is based on AI-supported technologies and supports young people in the development of their personal development plan. The platform has been enhanced with four technical modules that represent the “core functions” of the VLA: (1) recommendation module, which offers individual recommendations for employment trends and learning units, (2) quality assurance module for developing and tracking personal development goals, (3) support module, which enables field baking processes and supports self-evaluation and optimization of the VLA and the platform, (4) process optimization module to improve user-friendliness and facilitate learning processes. The platform thus offers a successfully tested, adaptive, multilingual learning environment. In addition, competence models for mentors and mentees were developed to support the mentoring process. The seven evaluated self-learning modules for the learning guides on topics such as chatbots, big data, acceptance of AI tools and the acquisition of reflexive action competence represent a further result.
