Summary

We applied for this project, because we saw the necessity to facilitate integration of immigrants in the receiving country, providing them with essential cultural knowledge. Absence of cultural knowledge is one of the main obstacles of integration, including educational & labour integration. We addressed the following needs: 1) To create theoretical and practical tools for immigrants to better know and understand their receiving cultures. 2) To organize activities, in which they would interact with each other and also with nationals, obtaining valuable knowledge and skills. 3) To facilitate the establishment of multicultural society. Multicultural society brings benefits to both nationals and foreigners. Yet, it is not easy to reach, as many foreigners do not really form part of the society. We consider culture knowledge as the first step that would foster acquisition of educational and labour opportunities by foreigners, and this contributes to diversity at workplace.

Objectives

We wanted to facilitate integration of foreigners who participated in our activities in the receiving country's culture on all possible levels: social, that of education, that of employment. We gave them cultural knowledge, in both theoretical and practical forms, meaning to foster their understanding of the peculiarities of this new culture. We also wanted to create a platform of interaction with nationals for them to culturally enrich each other and learn from each other - we conducted this in the form of an escape room. We wanted to collect foreigners' opinions on what they already knew about the country they currently reside, compare cultures, share what they learnt from our cultural course. Dissemination activities aimed at reaching more people with immigrant profile and provide them with these tools to understand culture aiming at their better integration in the receiving society. We also aimed at improving emotional wellbeing of the migrants, as people need to feel they form part of the society, and for foreigners it is difficult to reach in many cases.

Activities

1. Cultural course. This activity consisted in a series of classes given to foreigners on different aspects of culture, as follows: History, National Holidays, Art, Cuisine, Traditions, Religion, Politics, Music. We explained many cultural phenomena to them, showed them videos, and gave them an opportunity to share peculiarities of their own cultures and compare them. The course took place in parallel in three countries - Spain, Italy, Norway, the contents of the classes were adapted respectively. 2. Video testimonials with course participants. In this activity we asked the participants of the Cultural course to record short interviews with us, sharing their ideas of the culture, what they learnt from the course, what they like and dislike about the receiving culture, details of their adaptation process, etc. These videos are available on the YouTube channel. 3. Escape rooms. We developed and organized practical games with mixed groups - foreigners and nationals to get them solve tasks related to the culture. They had to work in teams to solve riddles on cultural topics (every partner created their own escape room). This was the most practical and original activity, it proved to be very engaging.

Impact
