Summary

Before drawing up the project a needs analysis was made in dialogue with all partners, having already set the broader theme: food waste. It was also made a SWOT analysis based on this line of action, bearing in mind the context of each country. We found out that we as partners share common goals. During this process, all the partners realized the emergence of theme Food Waste Issue: • Food Waste Issue the significant problem of food waste in the EU, where around 88 million tonnes are wasted annually, costing about 143 billion euros. • Knowledge Gap: There was a belief among partners that students lack knowledge and had varying opinions and attitudes towards food waste. • Obesity Concern: The project also addressed student obesity by promoting better eating habits and awareness. • Educational Approach: Schools were incorporating practical food education into the curriculum to influence healthier eating choices and to involve students and parents in health promotion programs.

Objectives

• To raise awareness among school students, teachers, staff and their related families and networks on food loss and waste issues; • Develop the skills and confidence of teachers in the appropriate and effective knowledge about food waste and sustainability; • Make students active agents in combating food waste at their homes through the use of food leftovers to create new meals. • Strengthen the link between schools, ONG, teachers training centers, professional associations of teachers and universities.

Activities

Teachers training course focusing on the concept of sustainability and food waste; 1 course program; )Support manuals covering the themes and various resources; This training course coverd 9 participants took place during the first LTA; 3 FoodWaste Hackathons: These hackathons involved more than 50 students and was carried out in each of the countries that were part of the partnership. The goal was for students, in an international context, to create new recipes from leftover food. Food Waste Recipe Online Book; Whether from the activities developed in each school, or from the FoodWaste Hackathons, resulted in a set of recipes that, after being validated, were part of the Food Waste Recipe

Impact

The project resulted in a set of recipes that, after being validated, were part of the Food Waste Recipe. 40 videos (minimum) created by students and families with recipes that implied the reuse of leftovers. It solved problems out of the reality of the country and developed ideas by means of sharing of experiences. It built capacity to work transnationally and across sectors
