Summary

We have noticed for a long time that young people are losing interest in reading books and have replaced them with smart devices such as mobile phones or tablets. The creation of this project was therefore a response to the need to motivate pupils to read books, magazines, comics and other printed text. We responded to the needs of the present, in which young people live. We noticed that the interest in art, culture and literature, which is a part of it, has been absent for a long time among young people. Our main goal was to create an educational project focused mainly on "INCREASING THE RATE OF BOOK READING, TRANSFORMING KNOWLEDGE INTO PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES and MOTIVATION OF YOUNG PEOPLE TO READ." Last but not least, with this project we wanted to lead our students to read more and to be more actively involved in cultural events, to be able to discuss with each other on assigned topics, to be able to express their opinion/attitude and, last but not least, to strengthen their self-confidence. Arousing young people's interest in reading books is a suitable tool to cover all these needs.

Objectives

In addition to the necessity to increase students' interest in books as such and in their content, we purposefully organized events close to them, aimed at increasing students' interest in reading. 1. By implementing the project, we wanted to improve the benefits of reading for students: - expansion of the famous stock, - obtaining new information, - improving the mental well-being of the reader, - improving reading technique, - improving concentration and attention, - stress reduction, - development of students' creativity and imagination, - improvement of interpersonal relations. 2. Expanding knowledge about foreign literature is one of the basic elements contributing to building a positive perception of international project partners. One of the goals of the project was to provide students with knowledge about the most famous literary works and authors of the partner countries. 3. In the project, we placed great emphasis on the well-being of students based on reading books - the goal was to create an environment for students in which they will feel comfortable while reading books/comics/magazines and this environment will motivate and encourage them to further reading activities.

Activities

In the project we implemented three main activities which were followed by sub-activities taking place at partner schools. THEATER PLAY - before the meeting with the other partner schools, the project participants engaged in a theater play typical of their country in order to spread awareness of their literature and culture. They chose one - the most famous theater play, which they prepared to perform at the first meeting, which took place in Slovakia. As part of the first activity, a theater workshop was also held, in which project participants practiced communication and presentation skills. READING NOVELS - SCENARIO - project participants improved their communication, creative and presentation skills in this activity. In groups, they created stories - scenarios, which they presented at the end of the meeting held in Poland. READING POETRY AND BIOGRAPHY - creating comics. The last supporting activity was focused on the creation of comics. The workshop focused on the technique of creating comics taught the participants the basic rules of creating comics, participants in groups created comics through the pixton platform. In addition to communication and presentation skills, the participants also improved their ICT competences.

Impact

Tangible results of the project include: - Book of theater plays, which contains plays that the project participants studied and rehearsed. The book has been translated into each of the languages of the project partners, which will ensure the spread of these games beyond the borders of the project partnership. - Presentations created by students thematically focused on each of the main activities. The presentations represent important informational material about the literature and important writers of each of the participating countries. Thanks to this output, the awareness of multicultural literature and specific works whose mission is applicable at the international level is broadened. - Comics - comics created by students are a confirmation of the fact that thanks to participation in the project and project activities, they have acquired the skills necessary to create comics (development of communication and presentation skills, development of ICT competences, development of creativity, improvement of cooperation skills, development of the ability to work according to instructions). Intangible outputs include: - improving students' communication skills, - increasing interest in books, - improving the ability to cooperate.
