SociALL. Making social care technologies accessible to all
▶Summary
We applied for the SociALL project to address critical needs in social care, where COVID-19 emphasized the urgency of digital skill development for care professionals. The pandemic highlighted both the essential role of care professionals in supporting vulnerable populations and the challenges they face, including limited resources, health hazards, and the need for efficient remote solutions. SociALL aimed to leverage increased reliance on digital tools to improve social care services and ease the work of care professionals. Our main objectives were to identify digital literacy gaps, create relevant training for tech-enhanced tools like telemedicine devices, and improve digital health literacy. By understanding and addressing these needs, SociALL helped care professionals gain skills in using remote monitoring technologies, smartphone applications, and social communication platforms, benefiting both caregivers and patients. The project ultimately supported care workers' professionalization, ensuring they were equipped to deliver high-quality care in a rapidly digitalizing sector while addressing broader social challenges.
▶Objectives
The SociALL project aimed to achieve a comprehensive digital upskilling of care professionals, enhancing their readiness and adaptability to emerging tech-enhanced tools in social care. We focused on analyzing and mapping the knowledge and skills gaps in care professionals across participating countries, establishing baseline scenarios and targeted improvement paths. Using this data, we created a tailored methodological framework for training, aligning with the specific needs of each country while allowing for potential expansion across Europe. Our goals included designing training sessions that applied this framework in practice, closely monitoring the retention and application of best practices, and adjusting the framework based on participant feedback. Additionally, we aimed to widely disseminate successful practices and make our final training package available to stakeholders for broader use beyond SociALL’s direct scope. Through this project, SociALL addressed digital transformation and innovation in vocational training by fostering digital skills essential for tech-supported care, aligning vocational education with evolving labor market demands in social care.
