▶Objectives
By implementing the GASCA project, our primary aim was to achieve a significant improvement in GDPR awareness and compliance among hotel staff in Turkey and Germany. Because the issue of 'personal data protection' is getting more and more important among all sectors not only in the EU but also in Turkey. The Hospitality Sector is among the ones in which cross-border personal data processing activities extensively happen compared to others. And the issue of frequent human resource mobility as well. Specifically, we aimed to equip hotel staff with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills regarding GDPR regulations, ensuring their ability to handle guest data responsibly and in accordance with legal requirements. Additionally, we aimed to foster a culture of data protection and privacy within the hospitality sector, thereby enhancing guest trust and satisfaction. Ultimately, we sought to establish GASCA as a pioneering initiative that not only addresses the immediate needs of GDPR awareness but also serves as a model for similar projects in other sectors and regions. Through effective implementation, we aimed to create a sustainable impact, ensuring long-term benefits for hotel staff in both Turkey and Germany
▶Activities
1-Definition/categorization of Hotel types and destinations. 2-Survey Design: Analyzing the specific data handling practices and regulatory requirements applicable to different types of accommodations and tourist destinations. 3- Dissemination: We designed a Web site and LinkedIn Account to raise awareness of the GASCA among the sector professionals 4- On-site surveys (Germany and Türkiye): A comprehensive survey to gather relevant information regarding data handling practices, knowledge gaps, and training needs within the hospitality sector. 5- Pilot course Design: On-site surveys were conducted in both countries, allowing us to directly engage with hotel staff and gather firsthand insights into their understanding of GDPR regulations and their implementation in daily operations. 6- Pilot course implementation (Germany and Türkiye) 7-Video production for training Hotel Staff.: Providing hotel staff with online accessible videos for raising awareness 8-Project Report (Research Report): Focusing on key findings, insights, and recommendations derived from our project activities, contributing to the broader disclourse

1-On-site and online surveys reports detailing GDPR awareness levels in Turkey and Germany. 2-Developed pilot course content tailored to hotel staff needs. 3-Implemented pilot courses in both countries, with trained staff. 4-Produced educational videos and customized curriculum materials for ongoing training. 5-Research paper (Project Report) documenting project impact and findings on GDPR awareness and compliance within the hospitality sector. 6-Issued Attendance Certificates for hotels and staff participating in surveys and pilot courses, demonstrating GDPR awareness efforts. 7-Raised awareness of GDPR and the importance of personal data protection within the hospitality sector, benefiting Turkey and Germany as leading tourist destinations for European residents due to their economic and social aspects 8-Increased transparency and accountability in data processing practices within the hospitality sector. 9-Establishment of best practices and benchmarks for GDPR compliance within the hospitality industry, serving as a model for other sectors. 10-Heightened awareness among stakeholders beyond the hospitality sector, such as policymakers, educators, and consumers, about the importance of data protection and privacy.
