The overarching goal was to develop the technical language competences – and, in turn, the motivation to learn – of young people and young adults with low literacy competence in vocational education and training. These competences are crucial for successful participation in vocational education and training and thus for access to professional employment and social integration. Vocational training staff (teachers, trainers and social education workers) were to be enabled through targeted training programmes to effectively implement technical language support for the learners described. To this end, curricula and modules were developed and tested that can be transferred to regular operation in the long term. The project aimed to develop a holistic, transferable concept that also provides guidance for education authorities and educational institutions – for example, on resource planning and organisational development. The results should help to reduce dropout rates and increase the number of successful vocational qualifications, thereby enabling the social and economic integration of people with poorly developed technical language competences.

The ‘Success through Technical Language’ project involved extensive activities to develop, test and disseminate concepts and materials for promoting technical language competences: - Analysis of the initial situation (survey of the current situation in the partner organisations, derivation of needs and conditions for success). - Development, testing and finalisation of a pedagogical-didactic concept, an analysis tool for assessing the level of competence, a socio-pedagogical support concept and a technical language curriculum. - Development, testing and finalisation of a modular training concept, including the implementation of training events in the partner countries. - Organisation of multiplier and dissemination events at local, national and European level and use of digital channels and networks to disseminate the project results. - Holding regular project meetings, video conferences/use of a communication platform and evaluation of project activities and products as part of project management.

The outputs of the ‘Success through Technical Language’ project can be grouped into three categories: - Educational and didactic products: Development, testing and finalisation of a didactic concept for promoting technical language competences among learners with low literacy levels, an analysis tool for assessing technical language competence and an accompanying concept for strengthening learning motivation and self-regulation. - Curricula: Development, testing and finalisation of a core curriculum and national curricula for the needs-based further development of technical language competences among low-literate vocational learners (transferable to different vocational training systems and vocational fields). - Training opportunities: Development, testing and finalisation of a training curriculum for vocational training staff (teachers, trainers, social pedagogues, managers) including materials, which works with low-literate learners in the context of vocational training. The project's products, which are compatible with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and the European Qualifications Framework (EQF), have been disseminated at numerous events.
