Objectives

The objectives, linked to the priorities, were: -Update occupational requirements for roofers with current needs & shortages in green, digital and safety skills. This involved a comprehensive analysis of the evolving roofing industry to identify crucial competencies required in actual practices. -Develop a novel curriculum and tailored training content for VET on green roof installation/maintenance techniques, ICT tools and safety. This curriculum was designed to bridge the gap between traditional roofing skills and emerging technologies and sustainable practices. -Introduce flexible training delivery methods & open-access pedagogical resources to support self-paced upskilling, and improve organisational learning. This included the development of e-learning modules, an interactive game, and practical hands-on training sessions. -Support VET providers to integrate project materials and adjust their WBL & VET offerings to new skills needs to ensure that vocational education institutions could effectively implement the new curriculum and training methods. -Validate and incorporate updated occupational requirements into competence frameworks and certification schemes, collaborating with industry stakeholders.

Activities

ROTES implementation has been organized in workpackages (WP), and each WP includes its corresponding activities. In the framework of ROTES project, all plan activities have been carried out. 1. Project Management – coordination activities 2. ROTES Curriculum outline and Educational Resources -Consultation with experts on curriculum structure & content -Joint design of a VET curriculum along with OERs on sustainable roofing -Pilot delivery and evaluation of curriculum’s learning effectiveness 3. Online Simulation Game -Design of a game-based learning methodology for the ROTES curriculum 4. Occupational Requirements Recognition and Certification. -Sectoral recognition of new occupational requirements -Inclusion of new skills requirements into ESCO and national classifications -Delivery of a Blueprint for the establishment of an EU-wide vocational qualification 5. Dissemination and Exploitation Activities.

Impact

- A comprehensive set of resources to enhance vocational education and training (VET) in the roofing sector. Through consultations with experts, evidence-based and measurable learning outcomes for VET provision were established. - Creation of 120 hours of Open Educational Resources, including a formal VET curriculum with learning units, training materials, and a trainer toolkit. This curriculum incorporated work-based learning components on sustainable roofing practices, aligned with EQF level 4. The materials were made available in seven EU languages to facilitate widespread adoption. - A blueprint for an EU-wide vocational qualification for roofers, along with an updated Skills & Competency Framework. This included revisions to the ESCO occupational profile and a Skills Certificate Supplement, aiming to standardize and enhance the profession across the EU. - To support self-paced learning, an online training simulation game was created, allowing roofers to practice and refine their skills in a virtual environment, enhancing their understanding of the sustainable green roof practices.
