Objectives

Age prejudice is one of the most socially condoned and institutionalised prejudices. Its mechanism is similar to discrimination: people are marginalised, deprived of responsibility, power and dignity in the name of age. The objective of the project is to support the professional and personal development of professionals through intergenerational and age-friendly focused curriculum development and adult education, contributing to the cohesion of society. Our aim is to reduce the gap between generations and to strengthen active involvement in raising awareness and reducing age-based (internalised) prejudices, motivating project participants of different ages to consciously shape their own lives and their immediate environment. We set out to develop a concrete solution to reduce prejudices: through quality, intergenerational dialogue, by breaking down stereotypes and disseminating information that gives a credible image of the older generations. We have developed a useful, effective and interactive method for professionals and organisations who, like us, want to make their own communities age-friendly.

Activities

Dealing with ageing and old age involves a complexity that cannot do without a multidisciplinary approach. The project has organised the P-AGE interdisciplinary community of experts. Ecosystem building started by identifying and inviting experts from different disciplines and specialisations. Subsequently, the Dutch partner organisation provided ten suitable Ageing Well online training sessions for experts. The participating organisations developed non-formal training materials with an intergenerational approach. The core activity of the project was the creation of a P-AGE toolkit: the identification of international good practices and the development of a sensitising educational board game. The project included the training and implementation of the P-AGE toolkit for 15 professionals from Pécs. The professional programme included the development of an impact assessment of our activities and the introduction of the method. In the second year of the project, the social impact of some of our activities was measured, collected and analysed with the involvement of stakeholders. The final event included a photo exhibition, a professional conference, a club meeting and a board game session.

Impact

We have created an interdisciplinary community of experts of 20 people, and then we have held ten suitable Conscious Ageing Training sessions for members of the community of experts. This community is now a living community of contacts, based on shared knowledge and speaking a common language. We meet regularly at the P-AGE Conscious Ageing Club meetings, organised on a voluntary basis during the project period, forming the core of the Pécs Conscious Ageing ecosystem. After researching and collecting European good practices and methods with an intergenerational focus, we produced a publication which is available in English and Hungarian. The main outcome of the project is the development of an educational and mindset-shaping board game called SORSFORDING COMPANIONAL TIME TRAVEL, which aims to show the paths that can be taken during ageing, while gaining personal experience. To motivate and inspire participants of different ages to consciously shape their own lives, their immediate environment and to accept the older generation. Subsequently, training was provided to 15 professionals in the use of the toolkit created in the framework of the project. We developed a methodology to measure the social impact of the project activities.
