▶Objectives
Through this project, the partner organisations aimed to empower teachers and students by enhancing mathematical literacy and 21st-century skills, especially digital competence. We sought to improve the quality and relevance of math education by introducing innovative, blended approaches that connected mathematics to real-life contexts, e.g. cooking, sightseeing. By focusing on students aged 13-17, particularly those in disadvantaged or remote areas, we engaged them in solving real-world problems using maths. Our approach included enhancing teachers’ professional development through international cooperation and the exchange of best practices, allowing them to adopt diverse strategies that supported students’ mathematical understanding. The project involved transnational partnerships to share innovative methods, create sets of activities to use innovation in Math and tackle Math-related stress, support teacher and student mobility, and create a supportive, digitally rich learning environment. Ultimately, our goal was to strengthen the long-term educational capacity and internationalization of our institutions, benefiting both the students and the wider community.
▶Activities
In our project, we implemented a series of engaging and innovative activities aimed at enhancing Math literacy and digital skills among students and teachers. The first mobility took place in Poland, where students and teachers collaborated on solving real-life Math problems using digital tools. The event included seminars, workshops, and cultural activities, e.g. Lublin Treasure Hunt with Math Problems. In Portugal, we focused on stimulating Math literacy through ICT tools, offering students the opportunity to develop Math skills and participate in a MathCityMap workshop. In Spain, we tackled Math anxiety to help students overcome challenges in learning Math, fostering cooperation through Drama-based activities. The final mobility in Turkey involved seminars during which the best practices of teaching Math were shared, with a special focus on addressing Math anxiety and developing new strategies for teaching Math. Through these activities, students and teachers gained valuable skills in digital tools, Math literacy, and cross-cultural collaboration, significantly improving their competence in solving real-world problems. The partnership also created 3 e-books with sets of activities to develop math literacy and tackle stress.
▶Impact
The concrete outputs and results of our project include a variety of educational resources and skills developed by both students and teachers. Key outputs included the creation of 3 e-books which contain 10 lesson plans with the activities used during the project mobilities, 10 drama-based activities aimed at tackling Math-related stress and the last e-book with 10 activities with digital technology in Math. The series of lesson plans which present new strategies for teaching Math literacy were tested and implemented in the partners' schools. Digital tools such as GeoGebra, Tinkercad, Hopscotch, ActionBound, OneCompiler for C+, and Scratch were integrated into lessons, enhancing digital competence for all participants. Also, we produced a collection of Math games and problem-solving strategies, shared on platforms like eTwinning TwinSpace, our websites, allowing for further dissemination and use across partner schools. Using feedback from the participants indicated increased competence in Math and digital skills, and the project also fostered greater intercultural awareness and collaboration among European schools.
