Objectives

We wanted to increase the knowledge of project participants in the field of tolerance, openness and cultural diversity. An important element of the project was to gain knowledge about regional and local customs and traditions as well as traditions of other European countries. Changing attitudes and behaviors towards cultural diversity, understanding the impact of our roots, traditions and customs on our further lives and identifying with a given region and social affiliation was a priority in the implementation of the project. Our goal was also to make the participants aware of the great influence they have on preserving traditions and customs, and that different roots and places of origin do not affect the worse treatment of a person, that everyone has equal rights regardless of their origin. Showing a different approach to the same customs will increase knowledge about other cultures and thus a greater understanding of each person. In addition, we wanted to improve language and social competences, i.e. improve communication and openness to others. An important aspect was also the acquisition of new experiences related to education and travelling.

Activities

We started cooperation with a partner school in Italy. As part of this cooperation, we have planned joint online classes on tolerance, human rights and traditions. Another activity was to provide information about the project to the school community. An important element of our project was also the recruitment of participants in accordance with the regulations, which we carried out immediately after obtaining the project's approval. Then, there were introductory classes for project participants and online meetings with the partner school on: Our traditions yesterday and today, Human rights in our culture, Our cultural heritage, Tolerance. Another implemented action was the implementation of cultural workshops at the partner school where joint educational classes on the subject of the project were held. The next activity was summarizing, evaluating and disseminating. As part of these activities, the Day of Tradition was organized, during which the participants presented the results of their work with their peers from abroad, and cultural workshops for the entire school community and invited guests were held. An important element of the project was the dissemination of our activities in the local newspaper and social media.

Impact

The result of the project was the preparation of materials and a video about the culture of Poland and Italy, as well as a presentation in the field of human rights, tradition and tolerance for differences. An important result was the preparation of scenarios for teaching tolerance classes for teachers. Another result was the joint preparation of a poster presenting the principles of tolerance and human rights. Establishing new contacts, and thus increasing language and social competences, was also of great importance. An important result is the improvement of test scores in social studies and language competences. The immeasurable result of the project is to stimulate our school community and the partner school to be more active and participate in subsequent projects. Gaining experience in the field of traveling and getting to know a new country, culture and customs, as well as learning about new teaching methods and the school education system is another result. Participation in the project allowed for the improvement of teamwork skills and the use of information technology. An important result is the increase in awareness and openness to others, learning about the culture and customs of the partner country.
