We wanted music students to build transnational relationships, increase their intercultural openness and tolerance while also help them improve their music making skills and the key competence creativity through interconnected learning and mutual exchange. With this project we also wanted the students from both schools to start exploring and facilitating new digital tools for music making across borders. As organizations we wanted to develop a solid understanding of, and experience with, digital communication tools and to execute a successfully organized exchange and partnership with our partner school that will last beyond this project. On a greater level we were hoping to strengthen the cultural bond between Sweden and Estonia in the classical music field.

Composition: Composition students from both schools participated in 2 digital composition workshops with Swedish percussionist Magdalena Meitzner and estonian singer Iris Oja. The students then had one month to compose a piece/etude for percussion and voice which Magdalena Meitzner and Iris Oja played/sang in digital Masterclasses. Pieces by composition students at MUBA were rehearsed and performed by students at Lilla Akademien at the festival Music for the Future in the Queen Silvia Concert Hall in Stockholm. The composition students from MUBA travelled to Sweden and participated in the whole process, from rehearsals to performance. Later, students from Lilla Akademien travelled to MUBA and had their pieces rehearsed and performed at the concert “Music of the Future” in MUBAs Chamber Music Hall. Chamber Music: Students from both schools played in mixed chamber music ensembles, had lessons with teachers from both schools, open master classes with guest teachers from Swedish music colleges and played a concert at the Estonian Festival In Corpore and in the Swedish Queen Silvia Concert Hall at the concert Över Östersjön. In conclusion the activities were workshops, master classes, lessons, rehearsals, and concerts.

The concrete results of this project were 4 concerts and newly composed music.
