The "READY4DISasters" project aimed to enhance community resilience by equipping volunteers and citizens with the knowledge, skills, and tools needed for disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. The primary objective was to foster a culture of awareness and volunteerism by providing innovative and accessible learning opportunities tailored to diverse societal groups, including youth, retirees, and working professionals. The project sought to strengthen volunteer networks across Europe, contributing to cross-border collaboration and knowledge sharing in disaster management. Key goals included developing an Open Educational Resource (OER) platform and interactive digital tools, such as mobile games, to train and assess competencies in disaster scenarios like floods, landslides, and fires. Additionally, the project aimed to enhance technical and social skills, promote inclusion, and motivate citizens to engage actively in building safer communities. By achieving these objectives, the project directly addressed the increasing risks posed by climate change and urbanization, ensuring communities are better prepared for future challenges.

The "READY4DISasters" project implemented various activities to enhance disaster awareness, preparedness, and volunteer capacity. Central to these efforts was the development of an Open Educational Resource (OER) platform, offering comprehensive training modules on disaster scenarios such as floods, landslides, and fires. Additionally, the project designed an innovative mobile app and interactive game to educate volunteers and allow them to self-assess their knowledge and skills in disaster management. Workshops, training sessions, and networking events were organized to engage a wide range of participants, including youth, retirees, and working professionals. These activities fostered collaboration, inclusivity, and community engagement. Pilot testing of the training tools was conducted to refine their effectiveness and ensure alignment with project goals. The project’s transnational nature enabled valuable exchange of knowledge and best practices among partners, enhancing the quality of outcomes. The "READY4DISasters" project produced key outputs to enhance disaster preparedness and resilience. A major achievement was the Competence Map Tool, outlining essential skills for disaster management and supported by nine training pathways tailored to floods, landslides, and fires. This tool integrated with an Open Educational Resources (OER) platform, providing structured training modules, multimedia content, quizzes, and self-assessment tools. The project also created educational games, aligned with the competence framework, simulating real-world disaster scenarios across three levels—elementary, intermediate, and advanced. These games reinforced competences through interactive, scenario-based learning and gamification. Additionally, the project launched a multilingual website (https://ready4disasters.gtu.edu.tr/), serving as a hub for resources, including the Competence Map, training modules, and games. The Competence Wheel on the site facilitated both path-based and module-by-module learning. These tools empowered volunteers, strengthened networks, and fostered cross-border collaboration, equipping communities with the skills and resources to effectively manage disasters.
