▶Objectives
There were two main aims 1. Ecological interventions in the school, which are simple, easy and economical. We wanted to support recycling and circular economy activities, with little financial cost and with improvisation of students and teachers. The aim was to show that when there is will, when there is cooperation in the school community and when there is planning by the students themselves, the ecological approach is successful. 2. Educational ideas for all school subjects and interdisciplinary subjects that cultivate ecological awareness. Many teachers, regardless of their participation in the project, designed lessons that initiate action and motivate students. Specific objectives were: 1. Continuous training of teachers and students 2. To make the school environmentally friendly and to spread its protection of environment 3. To have action groups in each school 4. To take into consideration and implement primarily the ideas of the students so that they love the interventions. 5. The opening of the school to society with actions related to respect for the environment.
▶Activities
Activity 1 Study visit and training on environmental education. The training was organised by the two Spanish schools and included visit to the schools, presentations, workshops, work with school pupils, presentation of the school gardens, etc. The visit included a meeting at the City Hall, at Teide protected national park around the volcano, at Teide observatory with information on the protection of the atmosphere from light pollution, meetings with public and non-governmental nature protection bodies and visit at environmental park in Guimar. The participants, both Greeks and the host Spaniards, discussed the effectiveness of the interventions at the school and at the same time learned about the ecological policies of the local community. Activity 2 Implementation of 21 environmental activities and interventions in the school environment. Each school designed together with the students and implemented activities related to the environment. Implementation of 14 educational ideas in school subjects and interdisciplinary projects. Attempts were made to involve teachers of different subjects.
