▶Objectives
By implementing the project, we expected to achieve several key objectives: To significantly reduce the consumption of fast food and foster healthy eating habits among primary school students. To increase daily physical activity, promoting at least 45 minutes of exercise per day. To raise awareness among students, teachers and families about the causes and consequences of childhood obesity and sedentary lifestyles. To foster social inclusion of disadvantaged students (due to economic, cultural, gender or health reasons) through food and sport as tools for cohesion. To strengthen teachers’ competences in innovative and inclusive methodologies, as well as in the use of digital resources for health promotion. To enhance European identity by sharing and valuing different cultures, traditional foods and sports from the partner countries.
▶Activities
Throughout the project, we implemented a series of transnational and local activities aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and inclusion. In Spain, LET’S EAT HEALTHIER included cooking workshops, the creation of an intercultural recipe book, cooking videos, the development of a FoodPedia and a digital food map. In Portugal, the activity on obesity focused on case studies, drama workshops, global anti-obesity lesson plans, active recess activities and the preparation of a parental guide with health experts. In Lithuania, LET’S PLAY TOGETHER promoted traditional sports and games, designed 20 outdoor activities, produced videos on team sports and created a teacher guideline to foster physical activity. In Turkey, Developing a Health-Promoting School resulted in a five-year strategic plan, a school health policy framework, a “Nutrition-Friendly Schools” action plan and assessment tools. Finally, the virtual INFO DAYS disseminated results to more than 900 participants, ensuring sustainability through the OER platform and digital resources.
▶Impact
The project delivered concrete results in terms of materials, strategies and impact on the school communities. Innovative resources were created, such as the digital FoodPedia, an interactive food map, an intercultural recipe book, cooking and traditional sports videos, and a toolkit for inclusive physical activities. Strategic outputs included a five-year “Nutrition-Friendly Schools” Action Plan, a health-promoting school policy framework, nutrition and physical activity calendars, and a digital self-assessment tool for healthy lifestyles. For students, the project fostered greater awareness of balanced diets, increased daily physical activity and improved inclusion of disadvantaged peers. Teachers strengthened their pedagogical and digital competences in inclusive methodologies, while families became more aware of their role in promoting healthy lifestyles. Finally, dissemination through Info Days and the consolidation of an open-access OER platform ensured sustainability and the transfer of results to other schools and organisations across Europe.
