▶Objectives
The specific objective of the project was to research and produce a Guide that explores who are the boat builders and stakeholders engaged in Eco-boat building, which methods and/ or materials are used, and to identify the new skills needed for this. Making the Eco-boat building sector more know and informing stakeholders such as boat builders and boat owner/ buyers of the new sustainable materials for boats is a major contribution to making the sector more sustainable and contributing to the European Green deal.
▶Activities
The partners organised three skills-shadowing workshops, one in each of the Eco-boat builders shipyards in Spain, France and Germany. With this exchange of Best Practices they laid the base for the following research phase, where they - gathered their own practices, - researched the practices of other Eco-boat building companies, - analysed the different methods and materials and then - concluded from this the needed skills for the workforce to implement these new boat building methods.
▶Impact
The information from the research phase was then compiled in the Eco-boats Guide and also all in a directory that lists boat builders in Europe who are either fully Eco-boat builders or at least implement some major Eco-boat building methods. Apart from these tangible outputs, the main intangible achievement of the project was to bring this subject and the current skills-mismatch in boat-building to the attention of stakeholders and the public and by this advancing the sector to move towards greater environmental sustainability and greater support of the EU Green Deal.
