Objectives

Our goal was to provide the students with an experience of exchange and sharing with a European partner. We also wanted to raise their awareness of sustainable development issues through civic actions throughout the exchange. This allowed us to develop in them a sense of belonging to a broader European framework. They were able to discover the various bodies of the European Union and the impact they can have on their daily lives. They were also able to see the commonalities they had with our Italian partners, and as future European citizens.

Activities

We conducted a digital exchange with our Italian partners so that the group could get to know each other and begin to reflect on issues related to sustainable development and well-being. During the exchanges, we visited iconic sites that are part of a shared European heritage: Agrigento, Etna, Carcassonne, Toulouse, etc. We also conducted activities related to nutritional and physical well-being: sports, hiking, shared meals, etc. We focused on sustainable development during "Hike up, Pick up" hiking activities on the beach in Gela and by raising students' awareness of waste management (reusable water bottles and picnic boxes, etc.). The exchanges were punctuated by group work to raise students' awareness of sustainable development and allow them to discover a different educational system....

Impact

We noticed that the students improved their English skills. They created a strong bond with each other, knowing that the students came from different classes. They gained a better understanding of Europe. Their relationship with adults is more fluid, and they have more confidence in themselves and in adults. In light of the experience, they are delighted to have been able to experience this exchange and discover another European culture.
