Objectives

EU Citigen'Z aimed to give 16-23 year olds and first-time voters the keys to understanding the EU and becoming active citizens. The project was based on three innovative areas: - INFORMING about the EU via social media, with content tailored to young people, and two campaigns, one before the European elections and the other based on a competition to approach the EU in a fun way. - UNDERSTANDING and clarifying the impact of the EU, its values, challenges and opportunities, through a platform offering videos, infographics, thematic dossiers and learning pathways, accessible to young people and youth workers. - ACTING, training youth professionals to relay these topics and, above all, involving young people in citizenship pathways, with a final Ideathon to imagine the Europe of tomorrow. EU Citigen'Z wanted to have an impact on several levels: – young people and youth workers: providing them with tools to engage as European citizens; – partner organisations: strengthening their legitimacy to train and inform about the EU; – national and European decision-makers: encouraging them to further integrate EU education into youth policies.

Activities

The EU Citigen'Z project ran from November 2023 to October 2025. The first year was devoted to producing 50 learning boxes on the EU and implementing a campaign linked to the European elections, which ran from April to June 2024 and included 403 publications in five languages (FR, DE, SI, EN, PT). The partners also produced a handbook (in five languages) containing 11 activities for youth workers and developed the project's digital platform and thematic content, which went online in early 2025. In the second year, the partners organised local training sessions bringing together 38 youth workers and ran Shadow Cabinets involving 44 young people. A web app offering 35 challenges on the EU was launched between April and May 2025, alongside a second online campaign. Twenty young people from the Shadow Cabinets then took part in the IDÉATHON mobility programme in Slovenia in June 2025, whose proposals fed into the policy recommendations addressed to European and national actors. To ensure effective implementation, the consortium organised two transnational meetings, nine online meetings and deployed evaluation and communication tools throughout the life of the project.

Impact

The EU Citigen'Z project achieved its objectives by producing engaging content to inform young people about the EU: 50 learning boxes (50 videos, 50 infographics) on European topics, a platform consulted more than 6,200 times with more than 30 thematic documents, an EE2024 campaign totalling 140,847 views and a European game contest bringing together 300 users, 180 of whom completed the 35 challenges, with 3 winners. For the ‘understand’ and ‘act’ components, the project developed a handbook (11 activities) used during training sessions for 38 youth workers: 90% feel capable of discussing the EU and 75.8% are very satisfied. The Shadow Cabinets mobilised 44 young people, with 78.3% satisfaction and a marked increase in their familiarity with the EU (58% rated themselves 8/10 or higher after the training). The Ideathon brought together 20 young people and generated 6 ideas that were incorporated into the recommendations distributed to more than 420 stakeholders. Project management achieved a satisfaction rate of 100% at 8/10 or above, with 60% receiving the highest marks. The project demonstrates a clear increase in knowledge, motivation to take action and European civic engagement among the young people and professionals involved.
