▶Objectives
We aimed to expand biomimicry education in Turkiye and make it accessible to teachers and students by developing high-quality, interdisciplinary learning materials. To achieve this, we conducted student workshops, online conferences, and teacher training sessions, fostering engagement and hands-on learning. We also organized applications in Hungary, ensuring effective implementation and adaptation to different educational contexts. A key objective was to translate all existing secondary school BioLearn modules into Turkish, filling the gap in Turkish-language biomimicry resources. Additionally, we developed two new innovative modules, integrating STEAM, sustainability, and whole-system thinking to enhance critical thinking and creativity. These new modules were not only implemented in Turkiye but also applied in Hungary, expanding the project's reach and impact. By implementing BioLearn 3, we aimed to equip teachers with biomimicry-based educational tools, inspire students to explore nature-inspired solutions, and contribute to Turkiye’s and Hungary’s educational innovation in sustainability and green skills. Ultimately, we sought to foster a new generation who can apply nature’s strategies to solve real-world challenges.
▶Activities
First of all we translated 22 biomimicry modules and teacher training materials from English to Turkish; we elaborated 2 new biomimicry modules in English and translating them to Turkish and Hungarian We implemented a variety of interactive and educational activities to engage both teachers and students in biomimicry learning. These included try-outs with students where they explored nature-inspired solutions through hands-on activities, fostering creativity and critical thinking. We organized online conferences to connect experts, share knowledge, and discuss the relevance of biomimicry in today's world. Additionally, teacher training sessions and workshops were held to provide educators with the necessary tools to integrate biomimicry into their curricula effectively both in Turkiye and Hungary. Throughout the project, we also promoted collaborative learning, encouraging participants to share their experiences, insights, and A-ha moments during various activities, thus strengthening the connection between theory and practice.
▶Impact
The concrete outputs and results of our project include the development and implementation of high-quality, biomimicry-based educational materials. We successfully translated all existing (22) BioLearn modules and teacher training material into Turkish, making them accessible to a wider audience in Turkiye. Additionally, we created two new innovative modules that focus on sustainability, interdisciplinary learning, and whole-system thinking, which were also implemented in Hungary. Another key output was the conducting of workshops with students, where they actively engaged with biomimicry principles, and teacher training sessions, equipping educators with the tools to integrate biomimicry into their teaching practices. We also organized online conferences to share knowledge and facilitate discussions on biomimicry and biomimicry in education. Furthermore, the project fostered a strong sense of collaboration through face-to-face meetings in Hungary, encouraging cross-cultural exchange and learning. These activities helped raise awareness of biomimicry and sustainability among educators and students, contributing to the development of green skills and the adoption of nature-inspired solutions.
