Objectives

The aim is introducing VR technology into the education of visually impaired students by qualifying training staff. This improves the situation of visually impaired people to increase their personal mobility. Although Article 20 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities requires access to mobility training, this is not regulated or available everywhere in the EU Member States. The use of VR technology would enable this training, in a protected and controlled environment.

Activities

The following activities will be executed to achieve the project aims: 1. developing modular curricula and teaching materials concerning: -“Appropriate and disability related usage of VR headsets for visually impaired students” -“Creating virtual environments (VE) with 360° videos for the mobility training of visually impaired students” -“Creating VE with Unity design platform for mobility training” 2. executing 2 pilot courses for trainers according to the a.m. curricula

Impact

The main result of the project is, of course, the opening of mobility training for visually impaired people through the use of VR technology. However, an indirect objective is also the qualification of trainers for this target group in the appropriate use of this technology. This requires, that people with visual impairments are instructed in the use of this technology. This is connected to improving the digital competence of visually impaired students. The created materials can be transferred.
