▶Objectives
By implementing the project, we aimed to achieve several key objectives. First, we wanted to raise awareness in our schools and communities about the importance of biodiversity in food and agriculture, especially highlighting the crucial role that bees play in maintaining ecosystems. We also wanted to educate students about the essential role of bees in keeping ecosystems healthy and teach them what can be done to protect these important insects. We developed a comprehensive curriculum with the students’ involvement, helping them understand the significance of bees, their impact on agriculture and food, and how they can take action to protect nature.Another goal was to create a Bee village in the schoolyard or surrounding area, where students could gain hands-on experience in beekeeping and related crafts, like building bee hotels. We also aimed to develop students' digital skills through the creation of an e-book featuring honey recipes, using web tools and apps. Finally, we aimed to strengthen the capacity of the participating organizations to work at the EU and international levels, improve management skills, and foster cooperation with partners from other countries.
▶Activities
In our project, we implemented a variety of activities designed to achieve our objectives of raising awareness about biodiversity, promoting intercultural cooperation, and educating students about the importance of bees. We organized five international meetings following a program specially designed in accordance to our objectives. We worked between meetings too, carrying out a lot of innovative activities involving a great number of students and teachers. Some of the activities we carried out are: workshops, lectures, building bee villages, creating brochures, flyers, e - books, song, bee -stories etc. Our activities are uploaded on our Instagram page https://www.instagram.com/beekeepingforplanetkeeping?igsh=cHpldHp5cjdoOTVz and on our padlet https://padlet.com/beekeepingpardilho/beekeeping-for-planet-keeping-rl36hkchz7t5z5lp. Our e-twinning project is also a way of engaging the school community in the activities implemented.
▶Impact
Here are some of the results: Curriculum development - we developed two different comprehensive curriculums with the active involvement of students. One of them has a content that can be integrated in different classes and grades and the other is a subject by it self. Bee village creation - a Bee village was created in our schoolyard or surrounding area. This included planting flowers and trees, building bee hotels, and setting up information panels to educate the community about bees and their role in the environment. Students actively participated in the creation and maintenance of the Bee village. Research and hands-on learning - students were involved in researching beekeeping traditions and the various products made from honey. They learned through hands-on activities, such as observing the bees in action and studying the flora that supports them. Story development - after completing research, students contributed to the creation of an original story with a bee as the main character. This helped reinforce the knowledge they gained about bees in a creative way. E-Book with honey recipes - students worked together to develop an e-book featuring honey-based recipes. We have other results on our results platform.
