Summary

Background The RELOOP project was launched to address the growing environmental and societal challenges facing European agriculture. Traditional farming methods have led to soil degradation, water pollution, and biodiversity loss, while many farmers lack the resources and support needed to transition to more sustainable systems. At the same time, the vocational education and training (VET) sector has had limited tools to deliver up-to-date knowledge on sustainable farming. The project responded to these needs by developing digital learning resources, practical workshops, and inclusive training methods focused on regenerative and resource-efficient agriculture. In doing so, RELOOP contributed to the European Green Deal, the Circular Economy Action Plan, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals by strengthening knowledge, skills, and resilience within the agricultural sector.

Objectives

Objectives The RELOOP project aimed to strengthen vocational education and training (VET) in the field of sustainable and regenerative agriculture. Its main objective was to equip farmers, VET trainers, and learners with the knowledge and practical skills needed to implement circular and resource-efficient farming systems. The project sought to bridge the gap between scientific research and real-world agricultural practices by developing innovative training materials and digital learning modules focused on soil health, water management, and livestock integration. Through a combination of online tools, workshops, and farm-based demonstrations, RELOOP worked to promote environmental awareness, improve resource efficiency, and enhance the resilience of farming communities. The project also aimed to create a European network of educators and practitioners who could continue to share knowledge and best practices beyond the project’s lifetime, contributing to the broader transition toward regenerative, climate-smart agriculture.

Activities

Implementation During the implementation of the project, a series of activities were carried out that combined research, education, and practical applications in regenerative agriculture. The work was organized into several work packages encompassing needs analysis, development of teaching materials, pilot training programs, and dissemination efforts. The project began with a mapping of competence needs and challenges within the agricultural sector, which formed the basis for the development of RELOOP’s digital learning platform and educational modules. This was followed by a series of national workshops and international training activities involving vocational teachers, researchers, farmers, and students. These activities combined theoretical presentations with practical demonstrations on farms to illustrate how regenerative practices can be applied in real-world situations. To ensure accessibility and inclusion, the educational materials were developed in digital format and made available in several languages, tested in different European countries. Impact

Results The RELOOP project developed an innovative digital learning platform with interactive modules on soil health, water management, livestock integration, and resource efficiency, available in all partner languages. A curriculum and training guide for VET educators was created to support competence-based and practice-oriented teaching. Pilot workshops in each partner country validated the materials and demonstrated practical applications of regenerative agriculture. Dissemination events, including the Final Conference at SLU’s Lövsta Research Centre, reached nearly 5,000 participants, significantly increasing awareness of sustainable farming practices. Together, these results strengthened VET capacity, provided lasting educational tools, and supported the transition toward regenerative and circular agriculture across Europe.
