We want to achieve increased awareness of the importance of information and media literacy in the world today and tomorrow. A critical mind for facing ubiquitous, potentially unreliable information and fake news needs to be developed among young people. We will guide them to take an active role as well-informed people. Resorting to original sources of information is to be encouraged. Personal development in language skills and building a network of European contacts are tools for survival.

During group mobilities, the students will meet experts and professionals of the fields of communication, newsrooms and social media. They will work together with a partner to make a printable guideline for information and media literacy. Face-to-face communication and contacts and languages in real context, even outside classrooms, will contribute to comprehensive, real language learning, all the while gaining knowledge in cultural skills and hence, soft skills for the future.

The concrete result will be a poster by the name: A Survival Guide for a Responsible European Citizen to be displayed in all participating schools. The underlying key theme is information literacy, a tool for life. The students will learn to distinguish disinformation, fake news and manipulated visual material. They will understand similarities and differences between North and South Europe but still have a sense of belonging to one common Europe. Life-long Finnish-French friendships will form.
