▶Objectives
The general objective of the project is to meet the needs for exchanges and strengthening the knowledge of managers of small European islands in sustainable territorial planning, shared local governance, and adaptation to climate change, to foster cooperation and networking between EU islands. This project helps give European islands the means to become sustainable laboratories to contribute achieving the EU's 2050 carbon neutrality objective.
▶Activities
Online training in governance and sustainable management of islands; Training and cooperation in sustainable territorial planning and shared governance, through the Sustainable Island labelling process, developed by SMILO; Sharing of good practices during the SMILO International Meeting of Small Islands in 2024; Technical workshop and exchange of inter-island best practices in Capraia in 2025; Communication campaign and awareness-raising actions for the general public.
▶Impact
A European cooperation network is created between the project partners who collaborate to implement sustainable actions on their island, beyond the duration of the project; 3 islands trained in sustainable territorial planning and obtain the SMILO “Label in Progress”; 2 pre-labelled islands strengthen their sustainable territorial management through exchanges and obtain a new Sectoral Award; 10 good practices shared; 80,000 people touched by communication and awareness actions.
