Objectives

The "Be a microscientist!" project underscores the pivotal role of maintaining clean rivers in curbing marine microplastic pollution. Its core objective is to foster a society well-informed about plastics, deeply connected to rivers, and resolute in its commitment to mitigating microplastic emissions. The project actively encourages social engagement, involving students who grasp the gravity of the issue and inviting participation from decision-makers and industry stakeholders.

Activities

We'll evaluate 10-14-year-olds' and teachers' microplastic knowledge and river conservation attitudes. Develop a workbook tutorial video and toolkit for river water sampling and microplastic measurement with children. Test these materials by the river with the target group. Create a recommendation paper on reducing microplastic pollution, interventions, and educational methods.

Impact

The MISC program imparts knowledge about micro-pollution and fosters river protection awareness. We'll engage 10-14-year-olds in science via citizen science, create educational materials for water sampling and microplastics measurement, and provide emission reduction recommendations to industry reps, decision-makers, and policymakers.
