Objectives

The events of the past years have highlighted the need to prepare today’s school generations to face extreme situations. Earthquakes, floods, and fires that increasingly affect populations across Europe, together with the context of the war in Ukraine, emphasize the importance of the approach proposed through this project. The specific objectives of the project were as follows: 1. Improving the skills of physical education teachers and sports instructors within our organizations in teaching survival techniques and procedures. 2. Developing the capacity of our organizations to train physical education teachers and sports instructors. 3. Adapting the content and teaching methods of initial and continuing training programs in the field of physical education and sports.

Activities

The pandemic, natural disasters, and the war in Ukraine have highlighted how unprepared adults are in the face of crisis situations — and even more so, children and young people who are still in the process of formation. Essential survival skills for emergency situations are missing from the school curriculum. At best, these topics are occasionally addressed through optional courses or specialist presentations during advisory classes. Although there are training centers, sports clubs, and educational or recreational camps offering various physical activities, there is a significant lack of coaches and instructors specialized in preparing young people (both physically and mentally) to cope with the real-life challenges they may face. To respond to this need, we have developed a training program for physical education teachers and sports instructors. The goal of this initiative is to create a group of specialists trained in survival techniques and procedures, as well as in how to live and act under emergency conditions (earthquakes, floods, fires, etc). These specialists will be able to educate new generations of young people to be better equipped to handle daily realities and navigate an increasingly uncertain social environment.
