Objectives

The main objective of this project is to increase the number of better resourced teachers with enhanced knowledge and engagement about the ocean. This will be done by 1) developing an innovative and immersive digital education tool based on visual and personal storytelling from a sailing expedition around the Arctic, 2) implementing the tool in preservice teacher education and in professional teacher training courses.

Activities

The main activity is the development of the educational tool. The tool will be developed in collaboration between expedition sailors, teachers in secondary/higher education, teacher students, science communicators, technical staff, and scientists, and will be available online in four languages. The tool will then be implemented in preservice teacher education and a two day professional teacher education course will be developed and organized in the three participating countries.

Impact

-A new engaging educational tool for ocean education, accessible online. - Increased number of better resourced teachers with enhanced knowledge and engagement about the ocean. - Increased number of students with enhanced knowledge and engagement about the ocean and pursuing blue careers. - Ultimately, a more ocean-literate society which practises marine stewardship and conservation, thereby contributing towards a sustainable future for our oceans.
