▶Objectives
The objectives of the project were To explore the linguistic evolution of signs in Italian Sign Language (LIS) and Spanish Sign Language (LSE) through etymological research and comparison. Creating valuable resources and new approaches for teachers of these languages, for deaf communities, linguists and interpreters. To promote linguistic awareness among students, but also (and perhaps above all) to recognise the historical and cultural dimension of sign languages. Promote exchanges between deaf Spanish sign language teachers at the Gaudem school and deaf Italians sign language teachers from the Ergon association.
▶Activities
Activity 1: Kick-off meeting with Spanish partners to define research tools and technologies; to select significant signs for comparison. Activity 2: Training on the topic of “etymological research” in sign languages available on the website https://istitutosorditorino.org/it/signroot Activity 3: Analysis and description of the selected signs, their origin, historical development and diachronic variations. Activity 4: Production of 80 videos in both LIS and LSE containing the 80 selected signs and explanations. Activity 5: Final conference in which the results of the project were presented by both project partners and during which New York researcher Elena Radutzky spoke.
