Objectives

Within the EU’s commitment to comprehensive language learning, linguistic diversity and heritage awareness and preservation, HOW TIMELY promotes Minority and Endangered Languages’ (MEL) revitalization among youth through Intermedial/Audio-visual Accessibility & Translation (AVAT). Focusing on 3 member-states and MELs (Catalan, Irish,Sardinian) and developing from the Rise Up Horizon project, it plans to expand to other MELs post-piloting, employing innovative digital tools for teaching/learning.

Activities

Teacher training and pedagogical activities centred on 3 AVAT modes (subtitling, re-voicing, audio description) will be crafted and deployed in 3 EU partner schools via an eTwinning project involving some 60 participants. HOW TIMELY accessible online teaching/learning environment, designed to align with ESEP and embedded into the Rise Up website, and a Good Practice Guide for AVAT in MEL class will be developed and promoted for MEL teachers to discover and adopt this innovative approach.

Impact

Main results are: HOW TIMELY teaching/training portal (user-friendly, open access); Good Practices Guide. These will provide self-education resources for MEL teachers and AVAT activities to implement in class. Expected outcomes are: - engagement of teachers, learners, and stakeholders in awareness on linguistic diversity, pluricultural competence and MEL revitalization across EU, especially among the youth, - innovative MEL teaching/learning strategies available in digital, open-access modality.
